Antigone 2024: 4
Antigone: Reimagined
A Director’s Outline: Dialogue, Part 4
The End?
Hello everybody. My name is ISometimesUnderstandInstructions. And I am back with terrible news. I have been fired from my job as director. I don’t know what happened. I thought I was doing amazing. My assistant – I don’t know her name – she always nodded quietly and walked away whenever I told her about my great ideas, everybody liked me! Directing is about communicating, about balancing everyone – getting them on the same page. I’m a great communicator. I talk and yell so loud that everyone on the set hears me at the same time at all times. Everyone listened to me. Everyone did what I ordered them to. Why have they sent me, their director – their God, ISometimesUnderstandInstructions, into exile? It’s like the end of a Greek tragedy.
Directors usually start off as actors or with some other role on the set – but my father was a director. And he trained me from when I was a little pup. Sure, I don’t know much about lighting, technical and design elements, and acting. Well, yeah, dad always told me I had to know about all that other stuff to be a good director, even better if I had experienced it myself, but.. I’m just.. better. What do you mean, I have to work for my success? I have to have a clear and objective mind to lead the production? Yeah, that wouldn’t be a problem if they just listened to me. Duh.
Anyways, sorry for the #vent. Regardless of how this turned out, I had an amazing 6 days working with everyone at Periodically Understands Studios, and I hope their production of Antigone 2024 turns out amazing. We’ll meet again, #SometimesUnderstanders, somewhere on my next journey. Until then, stay safe, be prescient, and keep #SometimesUnderstanding.
