worried

well Jojo got in touch with the surgery center about her pre-op

she is supposed to shower with dial soap tonight or tomorrow  and use mouth wash to lessen chances of pneumonia. ????????

Usually they give you special brown soap to bath in that kills all germs and never heard of the mouth wash?

What bothers me the most is they did not do an a1c on her only a fasting glucose and it was very high 256! and they are still going forward with the surgery.  I have voiced my concern but Jo trusts them. I have a horrible fear she is going to die from this… I have know two other people that died from gallbladder removal because they also had other issues! one was a bleeder…. and the other one had infection issues.

I do not want to lose my bestie…and they thinking the glucose is the lesser evil than the growing tumor??? that also scares me… cancer of the gallbladder is usually not an easy thing to beat.

Mouthwash sounds like she has tooth issues. Trying to lower the bacteria she could aspirate from her own mouth. I had gall bladder surgery 4 yrs ago. I hurt like hell for two days due to the gas but overall it was a simple enough procedure. It was the second major abdominal surgery in 9 months for me. They probably feel the risks of leaving it outweigh the risk of her alc numbers.

@snarkle I am guessing the same. they claim mouth wash lowers the risk of pneumonia??? I had never heard of that before

@kaliko it sanitizes the mouth. Aspiration comes thru the mouth. If she aspirates spit that is already contaminated with gum infection(etc) it is a higher risk to cause serious issues. Mouthwash would sterilize that and lower the risk

I had hail gallbladder surgery and it went fine though I don’t have any other serious health issues. For my surgeries they had me use Dial antibacterial soap also. And as Snarkle says the mouthwash sounds like for tooth issues. I couldn’t be absolute certain but that’s what it sounds like. I’ll keep Jo in my prayers!

It is true….Here is the info i found.
Clean your teeth and mouth.
The bacteria in your mouth can make their way into your lungs and cause pneumonia. Brushing your teeth and using mouthwash will reduce the bacteria in your mouth. Keep track of your actions to reduce your risk of infection.

I just hope does what the doctor told her to do….

Any surgery is serious and scary. I had my gallbladder removed.  I dont remember being told to use mouthwash,  but I typically use it every morning anyway. I hope all goes smoothly. Sending love your way.  <3

I think they give the brown soap post-op. And they’ll probably do a pre-op scrub on site at the hospital.

The mouth wash is likely to kill any bacteria in the mouth; I assume she’s being intubated?
