Backgammon

Last week I played backgammon for the first time in probably a couple of decades.  I played with a dear old friend, she and I used to play this game quite a lot.  I have ds#1 to thank for reminding us about that game and my friend for bringing her board/set when she came into the city to stay overnight during a course she was taking.  Now I am on the lookout for a set for my household, haven’t had a chance to look at the flea market yet.

I had no idea that there were all kinds of patterns to knit/DIY a backgammon board out of fibre.  I think I’ll look for a more traditional type of one but here are some of the ones I found, they were amusing IMO.

and finally this one is knit and felted, pattern or kit:)

I know, I collect weird knitted ideas and patterns.  Maybe I should do a zine about unusual knitted patterns/ knitting patterns for unusual items:)

Happy summer too by the way if you live in my part of the world.  This day used to be known as midsummer’s day instead of the summer solstice, makes a lot more sense in so many ways.  I celebrated by eating local strawberries and winding NS yarn that I plan to sue to knit a hat for a downtown men’s shelter, somebody has created an event that I am taking part in:

Midsummer is a better name since the days start getting shorter now. 🙁 I like the long days. It was fun playing backgammon again. Now I’m looking for a Chinese checkers board, because that was fun, too.
