LIMELIGHT

(Rush, Moving Pictures)

Living on a lighted stage
Approaches the unreal
For those who think and feel
In touch with some reality
Beyond the gilded cage

Cast in this unlikely role,
Ill-equipted to act
With insufficent tact
One must put up barriers
To keep oneself intact

Living in the limelight
The universal dream
For those who wish to seem

Those who wish to be
Must put aside the alienation
Get on with the fascination
The real revalation
The underlying theme

Living in a fisheye lens
Caught in the camera eye
I have no heart to lie
I can’t pretend a stranger
Is a long-awaited friend

All the world’s indeed a stage
And we are merely players
Performers and portrayers
Each another’s audience
Outside the gilded cage

wow, I didn’t know you were also a poet. :o) !! This is quite good and quite true. Many people watch our “play” and we have no way of knowing how they are actually seeing us. It’s comforting to realize that some of them see the “us” we feel that we are; disconcerting at times to find that a few see us quite different from how we wish to be seen! hugs, Weesprite

oh geez, I amuse myself with my total cluelessness about music ‘n stuff. I never recognize song lyrics! And you even wrote that at the top of the entry! Duh! I was pleased to see, from your other note, though, that I wasn’t the only one who thought you wrote it! :o) !! hugs, Weesprite

Even Rush plays homage to The Bard.

odd how we both hit on Rush today wasn’t it?…smiling…I like this one too. ~the feline~ 😉

beatifully said. conveys a lot of emotion, puts the reader in the fishbowl to *feel* what you are saying.
