A new year
A new year and a new computer. I got this one at a real nice price at Fry’s- one of their own sets of parts, I suppose.
My old computer (old!? It’s only six or seven!) was a Windows 98 machine, and this one is Windows XP. I have a mostly full 10 gig harddrive in the other one, but this one has a 40 gig HD…I thought I’d never use all of the old one, but I did, so I wonder how long it’ll take to use up this one.
The old one is not really dead- it just would not "see" the cable modem. I have a sound card and a geForce video card in that one, and they will both migrate to this one, probably. So far it’s working like I think it should, so perhaps I won’t open the machine and will just use it as is.
I have to load my Nikon’s editor program onto this machine, and I made cds of all the other pics, so my photography is not over, it’s just suspended. It has rained 25 of the last 26 days, and the ground is saturated- rivers are bank full or higher. Over at A and J’s house, I’ve gotten some good pictures of Johnson Creek – much much higher than before.
Photo editing might be more "fun" with the higher capacity chip this one has. the "old" machine was/is a 533 celeron whereas this one is an AMD Sempron 2800. I wonder if I’ll notice a difference?
One thing I have noticed: this new machine is WAY quieter than the other one!
Most of all, it’s good to be back.

Don’t know if your other computer was old enough not to have USB ports and the like, but the new one will be fun, no doubt. Have fun!! 🙂

Good luck with the new machine. You’ll probably get more than that. I got 5 years out of my old Hewlett Packard. If my new Sony gives me 5 years, I won’t complain.

i’m glad you’re back. congrats on the new tech toy.

you write your own notes? You are too funny. We need a new computer. We also need a bookcase, a comforter for Grace’s bed, a new peice of furniture for the microwave and a couch. Oh and lets not forget a new coffee machine. Now that is most excellent about getting a computer. Very nice of K! Very nice indeed!

Glad you are back with us, Cat! RYN–Now that’s a LONG spell of rain, even for the Willamette Valley! Man, the streets the streets must be a mess!

RYN: Yes, it is great to get some good news, even if guardedly so and couched in all sorts of disclaimers. Lolo Pass is a pretty area…I actually do not turn that direction to get home. I pass the turn and go about 10 more miles, just past Florence, MT, but before you get to Stevensville. Linette

You know something? Like life is a state of mind, being poor is a state of mind too (how well I know.) I prefer to describe temporary lack of abundance as an ebb and flow like the tide or waves at the beach. Like a farmer, you’re only between harvests. Peace,

Your new computer sounds like a beaut…I’m sure you’ll appreciate and enjoy all kinds of things about it. I’m looking forward to seeing your new photography.
