best so far

As I mentioned in the last post, I have found a trove of unedited (= low res) pictures of our 2007 roadtrip.  I can fix ’em up a lot with the Nikon Editor tools that came with my camera.

That was the first time I had driven a Dodge Caliber, and I liked it a lot:

This is on the Pumice Desert in Crater Lake National Park in southern Oregon.  I drove this Caliber about 3000 miles in tht week we had it and covered about one third of Oregon, the tenth largest state in the US.  For years, I’ve been driving rental cars when my friend/former-wife comes to visit from Japan, and have nearly always joked "I wanna keep this one!", mostly because I liked the new cars I drove and didn’t have one of my own.  We had Mustangs a few years – I LIKED those.  This particular time, I did have a minivan I used to distribute newspapers with, and later on, used it as a trade-in on a new Dodge Caliber.

On the way to Crater Lake that time, we drove down the coast and stopped along the way to see various things:

Devil’s Churn.

Well, we got to Crater Lake very early and spent the best part of the daylight hours there – I took nearly a thousand pictures that day alone.

(no wonder I haven’t edited them all yet, eh?)

None of these pics has been posted here before… the result of having a large memory card and not throwing away everything but THE BEST.  And, "BEST" is a judgement call that may be made differently years down the road.

These are "the best" today.

Of course, in my not at all humble opinion, I take good pictures, so even if these pics aren’t "first string", they are pretty good.

And of course it really helps to have beautiful subject matter to shoot.

The week we had the Caliber passed and found us on the last day on the Oregon coast again:

This is over a hundred miles north of the first pic in this series – Hug Point, south of Cannon Beach.

It was a wonderful day.

We walked for miles, it seemed, and part of our path was the original Coast Highway – the entire coast of Oregon is, as a matter of fact, public land, and the first highways followed the easiest routes.

There was a really superlative sunset that day, one that gave me literally dozens of pictures:

That’s the best of 2007 so far.  In that particular file, there are something over 1500 pics to clean up, and I’ll betcha I find more that I just must post.

It’s conceivable that even if I took no more pictures, that I have years of pics unseen as of yet.  Not that I’m gonna give up my camera – shit, that’s why I’m behind on editing them – I keep taking more.

No one’s gonna complain if I post some more beautiful pictures now are they?

Fabulous pictures. I’m curious as to what you do to ‘clean them up’, and how you decide one picture is better than another. If you have time, and would like to expound, I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s interested.

Every time I see your photos of Crater Lake, I get this feeling like I need to be there. I’m supposed to be there. Gods, what a beautiful place to do a Vision Quest! *chuckles* One of these years, I’ll get my butt up there. I swear it. Light of heart,

Hey, now that I think about it, would you be willing to “sell” me a copy of whatever photo you think is your best of Crater Lake? I’d love an 8×10 that really shows off the blue of the water, so I can frame it and hang it in my room to remind me where I wanna go. Let me know what you would charge for this. Light of heart,

You have no need to have false modesty for your photography skills. You are an amazing talent!!! ***HUGS***

~ryn~ I have actually never set foot in NZ. ALways been in Australia :O) and yes we gals look and think, we are just more discreet and get caught less ;o) ***HUGS***

Oh my. Those are so beautiful. You really should make some more of them into postcards, and find a way to sell them online, Etsy or something – I would totally buy some.

You take some amazing photos!!!
