Oh My God

OMG totally fits right now.

This web site thing is a tremendous undertaking, and I would be lost without the help I have been getting.

For example, I was given an assignment to find 20 to 40 of my pictures as an initial representation of the photos I take.  Advertising for freelance work.

"No problem", I thought.

Yes, PROBLEM!

I have well over 11,000 pictures that I have taken. (I haven’t counted them, I’m just going by the camera’s meter) That’s just off the Nikon. I would hazard a guess that I have about 25,000 pictures in total – my former wife’s from our years of vacations here, many many of her’s from Japan and Europe, and I’m not really sure of how many that my former sister in law has sent me from Japan and China. 25,000 may actually be a low estimate.

I found 434 pictures of Multnomah Falls, and that is probably less than half of what I have. Crater Lake? Thousands. Literally thousands. 8,837 have been uploaded to Photobucket, and that, my god, is just a drop in the bucket, lol.

There are literally thousands that I have downloaded from the web – cars and ships and airplanes and so many other types that words fail me right now. Thousands of them, I swear. Many many many pictures.

It has taken me a couple of hours to go through my pictures and find, not 20, and not 40, but 71 pictures to start with, and that isn’t even going through all of my pictures – I got to 54 and thought, "oh shit. I have a shitload of pictures". I haven’t even scanned most of a lifetime of photography – I have big boxes of prints from my various 35mm cameras too.

This is maybe the biggest project I’ve ever undertaken, and we’re just beginning.

I will have to get my Fearless Leader, the woman I met through OD who is helping me with this project to sort through and find those 20 to 40 pics for right now – I have totally lost any perspective. 4 hard drives of pictures, and omfg, I have a lot of pictures. No wonder I just edit them – the Paint Shop Pro and the other programs I have now would take even more time to play with – it looks like I could do a lot of things to my pictures, and, I have to say it, thank God I take good pictures to begin with – I almost never feel like I have to do any more than resize them for OD and sharpen them up a little and fix the contrast.  Cropping?  Colorizing? Framing? wtf, I would "drown" in photo work, lol.

Have I bitten off more than I can chew? Yeah, in a way, but, hey, that’s what "Learning Curve" means, isn’t it. I have to say it too: thank God I have some help with this!

Upon request from someone, I made a photo calendar a couple of years ago to distribute to a few family members. I loved the end result, but it was very difficult to sort through all of my pics and just choose 12. So I understand what you’re going through. I think your website will turn out well though. You have some good help too.
