Ohhh, I hate it when this happens!!!
I got up this morning, fed the cat, started the computer, and heard a fan or somethng spinning too fast or something and… pulled the plug on the computer and plugged it back in and pushed "start".
The computer stops booting. A message comes up to the tune of (no, I don’t remember it exactly) such and such a program is corrupt or intalled incorrectly. Use the Windows disc to fix this. So, I pull out the three discs that came with the computer (was it THREE years ago I bought this??) and shove the first one in and it says something like "you’ll lose everything on the hard drive if you do this".
Ohhhh shit.
I pulled out the disc and thought about it.
I have a back up hard drive plugged into a USB port… I wonder how far back I up dated it.
Put the disc back in and reformatted the drive – lost everything on it. Damn.
(got a fairly complete back up)
fairly.
I cannot get the security suite to download – the computer keeps freezing or locking up – non fucking responsive, in other words. And I still have hours of messing around with the damn thing – programs to reinstall, bookmarks to recreate – shit, all day.

If you get stuck and need help, try the computer shop at Backspace in NW – I think it is called Old Town Computer… they fixed my computer really well and it was guaranteed….

Weird.. my computer just did some weird crap last night and I got spooked because I thought it was going to crash. It’s a conspiracy! And yes, I HAAAAATE when that happens. Thanks for reminding me that I should back up my stuff NOW though.

Carbonite is your friend. I have all of my vital stuff backed up in three places–Carbonite, on an external hard drive, and all of my pictures on flash drives. I don’t intend to lose all those hours of work that I spent scanning all those old photos. I hate it when that happens. And I hate it for you–hope you didn’t lose all your pictures.

You sound remarkably calm…which is no doubt why you were able to get everything going again.
