shorter post than last time

I had one day’s notice of a Job Developer who is working with the corporation behind TJ Maxx being at VocRehab today, so I was not fully prepared to fill out the job ap that I did, but some of that info is not necessarily needed anyway and I had enough information with me to do it.

I have a college degree and I’m not stupid – not as intelligent as I used to be, no, but I do behave in public fairly well (understatement) and have a"nice" voice and was a bit more "there" than the other people who came to this job developer’s presentation. It’s a four-week 20 hour a week training program to build up their pool of workers for their busy holiday season, and might work into a permanent part time job. I’ve done retail work before at the zoo and will push myself as a cashier – I thought I was pretty ok at that, and have a good public demeanor – customer service of the old-school kind – and hope things work out so that I can take advantage of the opportunity.

After that I met with my VocRehab counselor and specifically asked about getting a new pair of glasses – these are over three years old and I don’t see as well as I should/could. She’ll put that onto the "plan" we are developing. They would give me a bus pass or gas card to get to the TJ Maxx training, which would be great – not earning while I learn would not let me buy gas or a bus pass.

The Social Security thing is developing.  I think they applied for me, but I get nothing at this point and it will likely be a long while before I hear yes or no on that. I’m hoping that ten years of war has raised the consciousness of brain injuries, the "unseen injury".  It is the most common injury in our Central Eastern wars, and I hope that "they’ll" read my medical history and see what it says, the damage done, and  especially the recommendations that the psychiatrist made at the end of the report.

(to sum it up:  "he needs help")

It is my conceit to believe that most anyone else who had these injuries and the loss of IQ would be basket cases and fucked for the rest of their lives, but even though I’m not in bad shape, there was some permanent damage done. We’ll see. As long as they’re not "I’ve got mine, fuck you" republicans it may work out for me.

By the way, Mitt Romney, I’m one of the 47% who will never vote for you, and fuck you too for your attitude – it mirrors the article on the word "asshole" I read this morning in Slate Magazine online.

Ah, but that is a whole different subject, and I think it’s time to go get that 10 dollar pizza deal I mentioned yesterday.  A walk would be nice.

Thing will work out, one way or another and hopefully in my favor.  Onwards.

One more thing:

In a previous entry I mentioned that I hadn’t had any contact with my brother since last year.  He called last night and we talked for a while.  His birthday is next month (I knew that, lol) and he’ll be 49.  It’s nice not to be abandoned again.

The TJ Maxx training sounds like a good opening. I bet you could get a permanent part-time job out of it. I’m glad to hear that all the other paperwork is flowing for you, too. And your brother called! That’s good news.
