Sunday misc
I got my papers much earlier than usual yesterday and was done with the deliveries like two hours before "normal". Today I was gone from home just over 4 hours with 605 papers to deliver – I like this time of year. It is much easier to deal with skinny papers, and they stack neater and look nicer sitting there.
(Until someone pulls the third copy in the stack out and messes up the two around it…)
And they take less time to deliver.
Anyway, I spent the greater part of yesterday loading my software and music onto this new machine. I’ve never downloaded music – I own all the cds too, but omg! 70 or 80 cds later and I still haven’t got many of my pictures on the hard drive here yet.
I’m finding too that the 256 M of memory this machine has is just adequate to make the thing work. I need more memory, especially for photo-editing!
(this is a NEED, not just a WANT)
Fortunately for me, memory prices are Cheap these days, compared to when I bought the old machine. UNfortunately, the memory thingies are different, otherwise I would pilage the old machine’s memory and have that much more. I figure a gig of memory will make my machine real happy and it’ll cook right along. It just so happens that I have a Sunday paper right here and will pull out the ads and "go shopping" to find the least price.

I prefer not to deal with "rebates". Now, I’ve gotten most all of mine, but I think it’s a rip-off. If the price is "ultimately" going to be $xzy, make it that way up front. Cuz really, you’re giving them a loan, interest free. would they do that for you?
I don’t think so.
I applied for a Fry’s card, but their "instant approval" was not up to my self-employed status… which is like, a good thing, because instead of getting the Sony Viao Media Center Edition machine I drooled over, for "just’ 999 bucks, I paid cash up front and got this Fry’s computer, which seems to have decent parts in it and with a big boost of memory, will serve me just fine. At 280 dollars, this one is like one third the intial cost of the old one; that much more speedy a processor too.
It could be worse, eh?
Maybe if I get approved for the Fry’s card, I can spurge and buy my first ever laptop?
Maybe maybe maybe.
Maybe not though. I hate being in debt.
Which is why, I think, I have so few "things". I have lived within my means (for the most part) and don’t owe money here and there. As a matter of fact, aside from my $300 limit Visa card, the only money I owe anyone is to various gov’t tax agencies. And whadda they gonna do? Squeeze blood from a stone?
The real drag about these kind of cards is it ain’t free money – ya gotta pay the bill sometime….
I have a lot to catch up on here!
I didn’t know that newspaper carriers were considered “self-employed”…. hmmmm…. but I can see why you’d prefer the time of year when skinny papers are the norm! I had Joe bring home a Sunday paper today (we rarely buy one) and it was fat, but 3/4 of it was store ad-inserts! Now I remember why we don’t often buy a paper! Here’s wishing you a good day. hugs, Weesprite

I hope you can get everything figured out with the new computer. I hate being in debt too, but what can you do? There are things in life that ya need, and it sucks that Nipsco gets nearly everyones every month. Oh well. Glad to see you back. Take care.

I agree with your take on the rebate thing…dogs! They should just offer the product at the cheaper price to begin with! Your music library sounds alot like mine (big)! I store my stuff on a hard drive that used to belong on my parents’ old computer…only 19GB but it’s mostly music. Glad you have a lighter work schedule…gives you more time to play! ~the feline~ 😉

Whew…you’ve been busy but you seem very energized by everything and that is a good place to be. Thinner papers, more time to yourself equals higher pay per hour, right? I agree about the rebates. The whole process of having to do the paperwork and wait for the refund negates the feeling of getting a good deal in the first place.

This rebate thingie is just another “money maker” for the company that produced whatever it is you are buying. They figure that about half the people will not bother to go thru the required rigamarole to get it. So thats money they keep. But what do I know?
Warning Comment
I, for one, am one of those lazy people who never bother to turn in rebates. 😉

Are you still not smoking? I am on week 2. I still cannot believe that I quit. I notice I can run faster and am hacking up smoke!

RYN: Yeah, the scenery around here is pretty decent, lol. I feel like I am on vacation looking out my living room window. Gives me a great sense of peace. Lord knows I need it. Hey, great that you have the new ‘puter. Memory upgrades will make it great. Linette

Yep…there’s no sense in “stressing” your entire life away, worrying about how you’re going to pay the next bill. You can only do what you can do and there’s no sense ruining your health on top of it.
