The first time was for practise
Ok, this is the second (or the third, if I count that 1 abortion as a success) time I’ve gotten it up and online. The computer. I now know I have about 93% of my pics saved on the remote hard drive – I’ll maybe this time just leave them on the remote drive. Downloading the free MaCaffee virus Scans I’m eligble for (Comcast and MSN) screws up and freezes the computer – I don’t know what’s wrong with it, and it’s bill harvest time – my checks aways go down a few hundred in the summer when I’m not working. A very bad time for the comp to act out.
10 days in a row over 90 – a new record. We had five days in a row over 100 – tying an old record. I’m ready for a "Portland" summer – 70’s, maybe some rain – cooler.
All day I’ve been messing with this computer – I have no idea what I’m doing really, but it’s working now – maybe something’s dying? Be nice if I could just hand it off to someone and say "make it work reliably".
I’m glad I bought that USB hard drive last year.

K* will be here August 20th.

DON’T use McAfee or Norton as a virus scan. Check out AVG – they have a free version which gives minimal coverage, but they also have a pay version that’s much better. They catch all those viruses and trojans before they can get to the place on your computer where they can do damage. McAfee and Norton just take up too much memory and will always screw things up.

Did you by chance have the beta version of Windows 7 on your computer? I’m just asking because I did, and it expired Aug. 1, and Windows does shut down every two hours and I get a similar-sounding error message.

That’s only 15 days to go for K*.

I agree with the AVG recommendation. It’s all we used when I was working for my dad.

I use AVG as well. It’s pretty good, however, your recent messup with Windows could be due to an automatic update of Windows Vista. Happened to me, but not in the same way. I lost all of my peripheral drivers for scanner, etc. after a Windows update. It’s been a bear!
