Is OD going to stay "up"???
It’s hard to get to Open Diary lately. Does this portend a complete failure soon? I am able to get on, as you can see, this time, and before this I took the precaution of downloading my diary in both text and XML formats, something I have been lax on.
I’ve been writing here since 2004, and have written a lot and posted ten thousand pictures plus, and I would hate to lose all that. Perhaps that download will preserve all that effort.
Nine years – I suppose nothing lasts forever. I bought a Lifetime membership years ago, when OD was having problems and to support it, I parted with a hundred dollars (not an option for me now) and bought that Lifetime membership, but of course, that’s not "my" Lifetime but rather is OD’s Lifetime.
The great fear: OD goes away.

I have the same fears. I had trouble getting in today, and every day seems to have some little glitch; some slowness, some unexpected nuisance. Why is it so hard to keep this going? Saw your note on the front page. (Actually, the black cat caught my eye… I used to have one just like it!)

Heh, just learned that OD has a FB page. So glad it was only down for a short while. Don’t think I’ve ever noted you before, although we have/had a common friend. (blanking on her name, but she stopped writing about a year ago? she slowed down before then) Love OD. Just wish the DM still did, too.

I never worry about OD going down completely because it’s done stuff like this for YEARS (I have been here since 1999). I’ll be here until its final day, I’m sure. I’ve got almost everyone I read here on my Facebook as well or at least their email address so we can keep in touch in the event we lose OD, but I will never write at another online journal site (aside from my faith blog). No communityhas felt the way this one has, and to me, that’s the most important thing.

i paid for lifetime membership about 5 years ago. i do hope od doesnt go away. i’ve been here since 9/99 and i’d be pretty sad if it went away. take care,

I’ve been here almost 13 years. I’ve had journals/blogs on other sites in the past, but OD has been and will continue to be my priority until the end. But, that said, I did set up an account on Prosebox earlier. It’s good to have a backup just in case.

The site is so important to many of us. Did you start an account on ProseBox? Lots of diarists are doing that.

This time, their webhost was the problem. Once the DM is told that something is going wrong, he fixes it. That’s kinda the problem with running something on auto-pilot, your passengers have to yell at you when something’s wonky.
