the last day of 2011

I drove out to Maryhill, Washington, on Saturday to see America’s Stonehenge.  It is a full-size reproduction of the orignal Stonehenge in England, set pretty much in the middle of nowhere on the north side of the Columbia River:

I drove out Hwy 14 on the north side of the river, and I got some good shots in the last entry on the way to Stonehenge.  I took three friends with me; Monacita, who introduced me to Open Diary, and her boyfriend, and our frend The Dolphin, who had never been to Stonehenge.  It was a good, 239 mile trip, and the weather was really pretty decent for the end of December.

I remember your entries back when you worked in the zoo and hung out with monacita and the dolphin. Glad to see that you are still together.

Awesome. I did not know that there was a replica of Stonehenge here. Looks like you can get close here, i don’t think you can in England?

What do the little embedded plaques say?

I love to visit the ancient stones in all their glory as the elements have left and weathered them. Last time back to Oxfordshire (July 2011) I went to the Rollright Stones. Lots of memories here for me and a lot of feeling left in those old rocks. We (mankind) just don’t know how to ‘hear’ them anymore. Replicas don’t seem to have the same pull for me but I do like to see how things were justthe same. I also loved going to see the Orkney standing stones a few years back. I’ll see if I can dig out some pics (won’t be anywhere near as good as yours tho’) of the Rollright Stones for you. Looks like you are enjoying your new camera. Very best, A
