these and those

Five years ago, I bought a Surf Blue Pearl Dodge Caliber:

Fifteen months after I bought the blue one, a very basic car (but I loved that color) I traded up and got a Caliber SXT Sport.

Spring Break 2009.

The first trip I made with the black car was a 500 mile plus trip to The Painted Hills of Oregon.

It has been four years now I’ve had the black Caliber and I love it more now than when I got it, after 54,300 miles.

(all mine, btw.  I bought the car with 32 miles on it; when I test drove it, it had just 7 miles on it.  54,293 miles are Mine)

Strictly speaking, since we rented a Dodge Caliber in 2007:

We drove it 3,100 miles in the week we had it and toured western Oregon.  I liked the Caliber so much that when I had a chance, I bought one of my own.

Strictly speaking, I’ve had a Caliber to drive for six years.

On WA 14, north of the Columbia River, on the way to Maryhill:

The sign behind me says "Cape Horn"  This is a high, sheer cliff above the river.

20 years ago this week, I moved lock, stock, and barrel to Japan.  There’s a story there of course; I’ll put it together and write it out.

Stay tuned.

It’s great to have a reliable car that one enjoys as well. I’m surprised you only drove 54,000 miles in six years. When I have a decent car and making ok money, I usually average 20,000 miles a year on my cars, and I don’t even seem to go to nearly as many places as you do.

Unfortunately, with the price of gas, much has changed. When it was around 1.20 a gallon for regular, travel distance and gas prices were never a consideration. Now I have to calculate for gas even on necessary short trips. Sucks to see the American way of life slipping away that way that it is.

I love all these pictures–so many places I’ve been myself. But somehow, that picture of you at the Museum with that heron, and the look on your face, just positively cracks me up–I’ve had to go back and look at it 4 times now! 🙂
