Well, ok then.
The new hire orientation meeting was almost six (paid) hours today. I filled out the I-9 form – yes, I am an American and can work here – and the w-2 forms and other payroll things are online (!), which we got printed forms on how-to work those sites.
"We". There were three of us there. One guy was 20 something and moved here last week from Madison, Wisconsin – he’s going to be Full Time, as is the other guy, someone a little older than the guy from Wisconsin.
[ a new experience for me; I’ve often been the youngest in the room and now I’m the oldest ]
I haven’t had a "first day on the job" for a couple of years now, and I wasn’t SURE I had the job before, but when they give you that tax stuff and that ID thing, the I-9, well, you DO have the job then, right?
There are a few more things I have to do online, to complete the "Hiring Package", but, I guess I got it, I got the job.
Life Skills Trainer.
That would have made me laugh, in other times in my life, and still does, kind of, but, as I told the interviewer, I do have a college degree, but I did my Graduate studies in The School of Hard Knocks, and KNOW about recovery. Could be I do have something to "give back" – I certainly feel I do need to do something, "pay" something back, or pay it forward, or whatever.
I feel like I got a second chance at life in 1998; like I was re-born or something, after that coma from the car wreck. It’s taken me 15 years to get here from there, and, as I say, "all things in their own time", and maybe it’s time to put that second life to use.
Onwards.

Best of luck. I think this will work out well for you and for the people you work with.

Yay! Congrats on the new job! A traditional education is good, but experience is often the best teacher. 🙂

Funny how we’ve changed age categories over the years.

I can relate to being the youngest guy (kid) at a job and now being the oldest. I don’t find that to be a comfortable feeling at all.

Yes normally you do not fill out any tax paper unless you have the job. At least that’s the way it’s always been with me. It will all work out in the end. If it hasn’t worked out then it’s not the end. I was thinking about you today.

Madison shout-out! Now I wonder if it’s anyone I know. Probly not. It’s a fairly big city.
