What’s that noise??? (Inevitable edit)

That noise is The Thunderbirds, the US Air Force flight team and all of them just roared over my apartment.

The International Air Show is in town this weekend, and it will the hottest weekend since September 11, 2011 – in the high 90’s.

(The Pacific Northwest is the BEST part of the USA)

(and not just because this is my home, but that’s a big plus anyway)

No, I can’t see any of the air show from here at home, it’s taking place at the Hillsboro airport, over the West Hills from here and miles away.  The Air National Guard base is up at Portland International Airport (can’t see it either) and I guess the Air Force guys stay there until they fly to Hillsboro later today – the show begins this afternoon and runs all weekend.

That show first began the year I moved here, 1987, and I have been to it a few times – air shows are the shit, man!

I saw the stealth fighter there, when it was "new", and one year, the Russians from post-Soviet Russia put on one hell of a show.  A couple of years ago, an English Electric jet crashed near the airport – wasted several houses, and raised safety issues, but those houses were not there when the airshow began in ’87, and the creeping urbanization of the Portland metro area is squeezing the air show’s limits.

I would go, if it didn’t cost a fair amount of money – oh, it’s pocket change for some, but it’s a huge amount for this poor cat, and I can’t "waste" what little I have – food, gas, and the phone bill have priority, and I am POOR.

Maybe I can catch some of it online or on TV, but there’s just nothing like BEING THERE.

The skies will be noisy this weekend, as planes arc by overhead.  I’ll see them jet by from my balcony, but, well, there’s just nothing like being there, is there.

I’ve been to one in my life time an accidentally seen one in st louis in 97 lol was going over the bridge between IL & MO my first trip out in a big truck from truck driving school.. they were doing their annual air show [july 4th every yr] and I was trying to deal with traffic my trainer and other trainee were able to see much more lol I got glimpses as I was trying not to run over stupid cars

The coast of California is best part of the US, IMHO. But few can afford to live there. I would live in Portland, Oregon after retirement if my 2 children didn’t live in the eastern part of the U.S. I’m sorry you didn’t get to go to the show.

I wish there was a LIKE button for this. I love airplanes. And I know what you mean about BEING there. It makes a difference.
