Baby Come Back
I sometimes find myself amused during my daily travels on YouTube. Among the content I tend to take in is music, typically songs that I remember from years ago, being that music today is just terrible. I will often find myself reminiscing by watching classic music videos, as well as those videos that feature the lyrics to the song I happen to be listening to. Funny enough, because I keep this music on as background noise while I’m at work, at my desk, typing and doing the writing that I do, I’m usually not in a position where I can readily follow along with the lyrics as they scroll on-screen.
Earlier in the week, as I’m plugging away at my desk, the following song comes on and I’m immediately enthralled. I had to stop whatever I was writing and pay attention. Now, I always liked the original song by Player, but somehow this Lisa Stansfield cover resonated with me. I liked it. I liked it so much that I want to say that I listened to it a good four or five times in a row.
This song had apparently passed me by, because I had no idea it even existed. A quick search on the internet confirmed for me that this song came out in 1997. I then wondered where the hell I was because I had no idea that this song was released. Upon further research, I discovered that Baby Come Back was a bonus track on the Japanese release of Stansfield’s album, aptly titled “Lisa Stansfield”. This would be her fourth studio album, the title of which might seem unusual, being that most artists tend to self-title their first album. Stansfield apparently did not go that route. And for the record, I was nowhere near Japan in 1997.
I’ve never been a huge fan of Lisa Stansfield, being that I only knew one song that she had done. This would be “All Around The World”.
Now, make it two songs by Lisa Stansfield that I really like.
