Lunch With Diana
As we had scheduled, Diana and I had lunch today. As is the case with most people in my life, she was late getting there. She had suggested that we meet at 11:30am. She wouldn’t get there until 12pm. She was apologetic and had even admitted that she had no reason to be that late, being that she lives relatively close to where we were eating. Being that she paid (which I had not anticipated and I had even had my credit card out and ready when it came time to pay), I didn’t really think that I had any reason to complain and rest assured that I didn’t.
We would spend nearly two and half hours chitchatting and catching up. We got wrapped up in the conversation as we do and basically lost track of time. It happens, but again, I was not complaining.
Judging from the conversation, she still enjoys her new/current job.
She recently bought a new dining table.
Her health is stable, though she anticipates that she could get worse as time progresses. She suffers from an autoimmune condition, one that leaves her in a constant state of pain and/or even a frequent nagging discomfort. I don’t remember what kinds of pain medications she happens to be on, but I’m going to assume that she’s on some pretty good stuff, given the way she says her pain can incapacitate her sometimes.
We’re hoping to make these lunches a regular thing and if we can coordinate our schedules, we can make it happen. I anticipate that, at the latest, we’ll see each other in early May.
Today’s lunch with Diana would be the highlight of my day. It’s Monday. I tend not to do a whole lot at work at the beginning of the week. I think that in some weird way, I treat Monday like it was a part of the weekend, my weekend, anyway. I work on both Saturday and Sunday most weeks, to where I generally don’t have much of a weekend as it is. So, I make Monday my unofficial weekend, just the one day. That’s all I need.
Diana had also taken today’s lunch as an opportunity to give me my birthday gift, though nearly a month late. I didn’t hold that against her though. It truly is the thought that counts.
She can appreciate a quality education. She herself is a product of Loyola Marymount University. She gave me the candle you see pictured above. How could I not appreciate something like that? Academic superiority? Hell yes. Even Diana knows.
Well, that’ll do it for now. Monday is nearly in the books and soon, Tuesday will be upon us.
Needless to say, Diana made my day, and for her, I am truly grateful.
