Time for an entry about music…

And now for something completely different!

Like a few of my favorites here on OD, I am a great lover of music. I don’t listen to a specific genre but will listen to almost anything as long as the quality is there. From Rap to Metal and Classical, I have favorites in all fields and listen to almost anything depending on my mood. Need an example, right now almost half of my MP3 player is currently occupied by The Wildlife Concert, a fantastic double CD by a great singer/song writer named Henry Deutschendorf Jr… known to the rest of the world as John Denver.

I heard one of his songs while I was at the grocery store with Ethan last week and the song got stuck in my head. I was going through the rows and singing along to ‘Dreamland Express’ while Ethan was munching on an apple, wondering why Daddy was breaking out into song at this particular point… in public no less. I have the double CD of Denver’s concert, so I ripped it onto my MP3 player and have been listening to it all week. Can you believe that this October marks ten years since Denver died in that tragic plane crash? I can’t believe it’s been that long… but time has been flying by, too fast sometimes if you ask me. Just for fun, here’s a clip from that Wildlife concert… care of you tube:

I got a little flustered at work today, because I actually had to explain to a kid at work who John Fogerty was and what band he used to play for. I knew I was older than a lot of the kids here at the center, but I didn’t think I had to explain stuff like this to them. Anyone who doesn’t know what CCR is deserves to have their rank of ‘music lover’ taken away from there. You’re a disgrace and not a fan of Rock & Roll if you don’t know what amazing contribution that band made to the genre.

The reason why the conversation came up was because I was checking out Ticketmaster for upcoming shows and one of the concerts booked for July in Toronto, was John Forgerty for the Molson Ampatheatre. Leah is a huge fan of CCR, and she seems excited about this one… so chances are I’m gonna have to put away a few pennies for that one. Forgerty has been rocking has ass off the last decade to some good crowds, and I got an album of his life stuff and love it enough to buy some tickets to see the guy. Via youtube, here is another clip… one of Fogerty pumping out of one of my favorite tunes:

Now, I’m probably not going to hear the end of this one but I don’t care. One of my favorite new wave artists when it comes to instrumental music… is John Tesh. I’ve been a huge fan of Tesh’s instrumental works since ‘Live at Red Rocks’ released in 1995. I got that album and have been listening to it and two other albums since then. His works are amazing, and it’s the the kind of music you can relax into and read a good book with. I listend to his music all the time when I was up late at night, doing last minute papers or studying for finals while attending University. I found instrumental music like Tesh’s and other stuff like movie soundtracks were the best to listen to cause they weren’t too soft to put you to sleep but didn’t have any lyrics to distract you from what you were reading. To me it was the perfect study tool.

So why do I confess this to you now? The answer is simple: Mr. Tesh will be here in Hamilton, performing at our local ampatheatre in June. He only has a small handful of shows booked, and one of them happens to be here in Canada. I asked Leah if she wanted to go, but she’s not into that kind of stuff. Ditto for Chris as well… so I’ll be going solo to the show but I don’t care. This will be a fantastic show and I’m going to get my ticket either tonight or tomorrow. This is one show that I think will be a very interesting experience and I look forward to it. The actual show is June 12th, so I’ll have time to yabber on about it between now and then. Tickets have been on sale since Saturday so I’m hoping there’ll be some seats left, hopefully something in the bottom floor to purchase. I wouldn’t care of I’m in the worst seat in the house, I’d take it in a heartbeat. Call me crazy, but this is one show I’m dying to check out. Just to give you an idea of what I’m talking about, one more youtube video before I call this an entry:

Call me a wussy if you want, but that kind of stuff kicks ass in my books. Enough to the point where I’m going to fork down a few hard earned bucks to see the guy in concert. Should be a bitchin’ show, but so would the Fogerty one if I can land tickets for that one too. Leah adores that stuff so I’m thinking that would make for a bitchin’ mother’s day gift, eh?

I think that’s enough yapping about music for now. I’ve got to get back to work. Hope everyone is having a good Friday and I’ll be around. Until then, take care…

Peter

“One of my favorite new wave artists when it comes to instrumental music, is John Tesh.” You are an embarrassment to dudes everywhere. 🙂 For the record, I spent last Friday and Saturday in Toronto… I was at the Bonderman/Halladay duel that ended with a Tiger reliever blowing it in the 10th. Oh well. Yonge Street was fun the next day.

Singing in the aisle, eh? They may commit you just yet! 🙂 As for those who don’t know who CCR is, there is a place for them: It’s called northern Nunavut.

John Tesh? What next, Kenny G?

Interesting how Tesh has established himself in another path from TV host. He worked hard at it, now the music is what he is known for!

And you know what, guys who admit to liking Tesh are secure in their manhood, yo! Yeah that’s right, I’ll stick up for your beliefs…sometimes! 😉

HAHAHAHAHAhahahahhaha….. Tesh! HAAHAhahahaha Tesh! LOLOLLLOLOLOLLLLLLLLL!!! Sorry dude… it’s just that it’s Tesh!

I don’t know what to say about Tesh. I could understand Hasselhoff, but Tesh, that’s a whole other commodity.
