(Entry 13) Can you sit with your thoughts?

In a research, a group of men and women were asked to select one option from these two –

a. Sit alone

b. Electrocution

I’ll give you a minute. Think for yourself – sitting alone or electrocution?

Hopefully you’ve the answer now and it is the first option. Now the result from the aforementioned research –

40% women and 60% men chose electrocution.

That just blows the mind, isn’t it?

The purpose of this research was to find out how comfortable we are with our own thoughts.

Personally speaking, this research makes so much sense to me! It helps us understand our psychology. Because when we are alone, our mind begins the never-ending loop of negativity –

‘You are not good enough.’ ‘You need to work more on your body.’ ‘Everyone hates me.’ ‘I am not enough.’ ‘It is because of me that I lost that job/relationship/offer etc.’ ‘I am the one responsible for other’s hatred towards me.’ ‘I wish I could be more.’

If you can relate then congratulations! You just discovered something about your own psyche – that our thoughts are the ones holding us back from living a wonderful life we all deserve.

I too can relate by the way. That is why we need to be more conscious of our thought process. We must be constantly aware of what we are feeding ourselves.

Feed positive thoughts. Such as –

  • I am amazing.
  • i can do anything.
  • it isn’t my fault if that job/relationship is gone. I did my best and that is all I can do.
  • i am enough.
  • i am living my dream life.
  • i have the skills to make my dreams happen.
  • i am effective in communication.
  • …and so on.

Let me know how do you find the research and whether it helped you on some level. For me, it helped!

P.S. i wanted to do this entry yesterday but got caught up in my own WC loop. I missed you, OD.
