Not Creepy at All (Off Topic)
It was a leisure day for me, so this post will be about entertainment.
I spent a lot of time listening to an LP/C tribute band that’s been around since 2017. I listened to an entire two-hour show, which is rare for me. C knock-offs don’t usually last longer than 15 seconds in my ears. Nope. CLICK! Lmao.
This young man was pretty good, though. At times, he missed the mark of sounding like C but was still a good singer. Other times, I could have sworn he had channeled him because I couldn’t tell them apart.
One time I got confused and thought I had accidentally turned on the real LP, lmao. Nope. Twas still the tribute band. Then I got confused later and thought the tribute band was singing “Sharp Edges.”
I almost peed myself because it sounded JUST like C. I was like, “There’s no effing way this boy is singing SHARP EDGES and sounding just like C on the record!!! It’s impossible for anyone to replicate his voice in that particular song!!!” It’s very folkey, and there’s no real rhyme or reason to it, especially the end part about “We all fall down. We live some how … ” and so on. Sounds like it was thrown down spontaneously, like with no practice and maybe ad-libbed. No proof, though. Just a speculation.
He didn’t sing it, though. It was actually C. They played the album version of “Sharp Edges” while they said their goodbyes to the crowd.
So anyway, I think the guy’s name is Ivo, and I believe he’s Portugese or something. He has an accent and speaks another language. Seems like he’s really into what he’s doing. You HAVE to be a hardcore fan of someone to be in a tribute band in the first place, yes? Well, that’s why his performances are so uncanny. He’s a true fan of C, so he connects with C.
I feel like he should have been chosen to be the new singer if anyone.
He’s about the closest we OG C fans will ever get to hearing him live. We’ve all been fans of this person for 20 years, and it’s apparently a forever thing. We all seem to have that same weird connection to him to this day. Also the same stubbornness about not flipping or forgetting, protectiveness about his “legacy,” and the “obligation” to speak against any and all injustices to his name, lol.
Many of us were not happy when LP resurfaced, let alone without putting someone in there that even remotely sounded like him — a man at least. Someone who would keep his actual memory alive. The rebirth opened old wounds, restarted mourning processes, and literally bitch-slapped us in the face.
This dude would have been a great choice. Let me be clear, though. NO ONE can ever really replace C. However, we could have at least stomached this male singer. He has a sincere vibe that doesn’t feel all sorts of wrong, and his voice does not pierce our souls.
As it stands, many of us just listen to old LP stuff and C’s side projects. Some have been going to the tribute band’s concerts so they can experience C the only way they feel they can at this point. A few even prefer the tribute band to the current actual band.
Some say it would have been “creepy” to have hired someone who sounded like C. I disagree. It wouldn’t have been creepy at all. It would have been cool. LP would have still had some of the element that made us fans in the first place. Not that all the other original band members were not good artists, but it just doesn’t work for us without some kind of C, lmao. That’s the 100% truth.
I think it’s creepy to have a whole other gender in there doing the same types of “creepy” imitations that they claim are “weird”. I mean, if someone has to sing these older songs, shouldn’t it be a MAN who truly admired C? Just my thoughts.
