I have always wanted to write a book, I have half written so so many but never had enough commitment to finish them , I have a new idea for a book, tell me your secrets, how do you manage to finish them?

It does take a sound commitment. The first writing is easy. The hard part is keeping the characters straight. Then comes the worst part: editing. I wrote the first couple of chapters of one then gave up. I prefer to read books. There are several authors here on the Diary. 😎

From the very small amount of writing I’ve actually been able to accomplish over the years (not anything for money published, mind you), I second Tracker in that sound commitment works well. (Says the guy who last finished a novella-length story around 1994…lol). Otherwise, having a clear idea of the timeline of your story and your characters’ motivations are the absolute foundations. You may discover twists you want to throw in as you advance along…nothing wrong with a smart and shocking plot twist!
