The Brain Is An Amazing Organ Sometimes Full Of Old Junk

The brain is an amazing thing, what memories it holds.  And junk.

This morning shortly after getting up some lyrics came to mind and I realized that last time I heard the song was in grade school. I was not sure of the name of the song but I tried to remember more words to it and figured out with some remembered rhymes it was called “Animal Fair”.  I looked it up on youtube and yeah it was an actual song. A children’s song I remembered from the very early 60’s.

I have thought about this. The bits of lyrics that came to mind in a child’s voice amazed me. It was a reminder that there are many memories in there that I thought were lost. I have very few conscious memories of much of my childhood and youth. But the memories are in there. Stuck in hidden files that open up at the oddest of times.

My mother had Alzheimer’s and I’m here to tell you that music is the last thing to go. She didn’t know who I was or where she was, but she could still sing the lyrics and melodies with no problems.

@solovoice I saw a video of a woman with Alzheimer’s That had been a dancer in her youth. One day she heard Swan Lake being played and she started to dance to it as she did when she was young. I have heard that playing and learning music is good for avoiding dementia.

I remember that song.  Funny.  An old song that came uninvited into my head recently was Teddy Bear’s Picnic.  I thought it was a scary song when I was little.  Henry Hall & His Orchestra – The Teddy Bear’s Picnic (1932) – YouTube.
