Learning A New Language

I’ve been thinking about learning a new language. I was checking out the website called Duolingo. I can learn a new language for free. I was thinking about learning Spanish,  it is so prevalent in America. Although, Mandarin is the most popular language in the world. And I think that it would be very interesting for me to learn Mandarin.

Something I already learned about languages. Every language has formal and informal words. And of course, I must distinguish the difference between formal and informal words when learning a new language.

For Example:

Hello is formal
Hi or Hey is informal

Intercourse is formal
**** is informal

Covid-19 is formal
Corona Virus is informal

I can only hope that when I’m learning a new language, using Duolingo, or Rosetta Stone, that they let me know which words are formal and informal.

That should be fun.  I’ve been thinking about learning Italian so that I can talk to my relatives in Sicily.  For several years we have been communicating through Messenger using google translate with terrible and often humorous results.  My oldest daughter uses Duolingo when she prepares to visit a country, and it gives her enough to get by. My non-binary child (they are 19) uses it to study Dutch because he wants to live in Amsterdam someday.

@catholicchristian Yes, perhaps you should try Duolingo. See how far you get 🙂

I know a few languages but not very well because I have stopped using them.  If you do learn a new language just make sure you use it or you will loose it…..

@jaythesmartone That’s good advice.  Thank you, Jodie 🙂

I’ve used that App and it is excellent.  And good for you trying to learn.  I just need to get myself back on Duolingo myself.

@thecrazyone_1 Yes, Jodie gave some really good advice. Stick with it and use it often, or you will forget it 🙂

I’ve used Duolingo, it’s great (Rosetta is expensive, don’t use it). If you decide on Spanish or French, shoot your questions at  me, I’m native to both 🙂

@jays I imagine that Korean is as difficult to learn as Mandarin. Good luck! 🙂

@celestialflutter Yes, I agree. Duolingo is a great place for learning a new language. Or to spruce up an existing language 🙂
