1802 Things you never want to forget…

Saucy Scale: 9

I wrote this entry earlier today, but like a dummy…I opted to write it straight into OD and the entry was lost.  *POOF*  Wherever those entries go.  I know better.  I even thought about doing a cut & paste as I was hitting the save button…"just in case".

Anyhoo.

Often times, once we’ve dropped Gus off at nursery school, we turn right instead of left (towards home)…to get mommy a coffee at Dunkin Donuts.  Sometimes I’ll get a munchkin for Mattson, but not always.

This morning we were in the drive thru and we had the following exchange:

Mommy: do you want a munchkin?

Mattson: COFFEE!

Mommy: Ok, do you want that black or with cream and 3 splendas?

Mattson: with cream, please.

That child cracks me up!

As I wrote in yesterday’s entry…yesterday was Dry Lady Day.

We’ve had two long-standing rules about Dry Lady Day:

  1. I do not cook (b/c I’d rather not have a sink full of pots & pans and a dirty kitchen)
  2. We do not eat dinner at home (b/c it really is nice to have a clean kitchen for 24 hours)

and I foolishly broke both of these rules.

I made a nice big mess cooking lunch for The Big Boys.  In return, they thanked me by making a HUGE mess at the kitchen table including huge clumps of sticky rice & other food on the floor and smashing peas into the table.

The floor was such a disaster that I decided it would be easier to clean-up AFTER letting the food dry out a bit (instead of gumming up my broom with sticky rice).

We didn’t get 24 hours of clean kitchen.  I didn’t even get 3 hours of clean kitchen!

Every time I walked by the table, I was so annoyed by the mess.  At one point I walked by and noticed it was clean under there.  I thanked TBU for sweeping & cleaning up the mess for me.  He didn’t have a clue what I was talking about.  Thank goodness for that small white dog of ours.  I don’t know why it took her HOURS to find the buffet under the table!

In an attempt to redeem myself, I apparently became SuperMom this morning.  After dropping Gus off at nursery school:

  • I stopped at the bakery for some fresh bread
  • I did 2 loads of laundry
  • I had dinner put together by 11:00am!
  • I had the first version of this entry written

All by the time I had to leave to pick-up Gus from school at 11:15am.  You can see why I was feeling uber productive about how I spent the morning!

In the van on the way to pick-up Gus, Mattson fell asleep.  ARGH!  I know he doesn’t feel good today & really needed his rest, but when he falls asleep in the car, it screws with his afternoon nap (2-4pm).  As in…there will be no nap in the afternoon.  Knowing that his *real* nap was already a lost cause, I allowed him to sleep in the van for an hour or so while I got some lunch together for Gus.

So, I was right.  Gus is currently sacked out & Mattson is not.  Since they share a room & a nap time, I have a strategy for handling naps.  The Minis finish their nummies & get tucked into their swings for their naps.  I take the boys upstairs & tucked into their beds.  We read together & say our prayers.  Then I sink into the glider and wait it out.  I do not bother leaving that room until they are both asleep.  Leaving prematurely will only end in chaos & destruction.

On days like today when I know that one child will NEVER fall asleep, I have to go to Plan 2.  Which is a bit like a bait & switch.  We go through the motions of nap time.  Then, when the one boy falls asleep, I sneak out with the other one.

At least one of them will get a proper nap.

I really was looking forward to taking one myself today.  So, I’m kinda bummed.  Not only do I not get any rest, but Mattson is getting ramped up.  Which is really draining.

<span style="font-size: medium”>Tomorrow is Gusser’s 4th birthday.  It is also the last day of school.  One of the lovely things they do is have the parents/siblings attend the last 1/2 hour of school with your student.  They sing songs, eat snacks, and make a big deal about the end of the school year.

And one last tidbit from the "out of the mouths of babes" file.

Like I said, tomorrow is the last day of the school year for nursery school.  We purchased "thank you" cards for his 2 teachers and the Director of the school.  Gus made a drawing in each card.  In an attempt to personalize the cards, I asked Gus to tell me what he likes about each of these 3 women.

In his card to Mrs. W. I wrote "…she gets snacks for all the boys and girls."

In his card to Mrs. S. I wrote "…she helps us clean up books and sit on the blue rug."

For his card to The Director, I was trying to get clarification as to what it was he was trying to express.  He said something about running in school.  I asked him, "Did she have to yell at you about running in school?"

The deadpan response from the backseat, "No, she doesn’t yell at me.  Only you and daddy yell at me."

Of course.

5 Things That Make Me Happy:

  1. My children are hysterically funny
  2. My husband goes to the grocery store and comes home with Dairy Queen blizzards
  3. Oxiclean Baby is a miracle product.  Hands down.
  4. A new recipe from The Food Network…not bad.
  5. Watching the season finale of The Unit courtesy of our DVR.

mmm I LOVE when Joe runs errands and comes home with treats. I cant tell you how flippin’ impressed I am with you with your routine for the Mini’s and the Big Boys- because with M- and Sam, I feel like I am drowning and will never get it down pat, and here you are- with four, making it look easy. Question- when the boys nap in the car (I remember you saying this a few other times too) are they inthe garage? do you leave the car running so they have the ac? I just cant figure out how to let Sam stay in the car without frying him to pieces

Thank goodness for dogs! My nephew dropped his plate of spaghetti this evening as he was putting it on the kitchen counter. Our little chihuahua zipped over and gobbled everything up.

1 & 2 are true for me, too! I looked for Baby Oxiclean at Shopko the other day & couldn’t find it. I will have to check Walmart!
