Small Escape
Woke up this morning to the glorious sound of… silence. No alarm blaring, no rush to get ready. Just a peaceful, quiet Monday morning. It felt absolutely luxurious to just roll over and snuggle back under the duvet for a few extra minutes. Eventually, the lure of a proper day off pulled me out of bed, and what a day it’s been!
First up: Minecraft with the little dude. Hours melted away building fantastical castles and battling monsters. His excitement is infectious, and honestly, it’s just pure, unadulterated fun. After our adventures, I finally got around to catching up on all those YouTube videos that have been languishing in my “watch later” list. A bit of this, a bit of that – mindless entertainment at its finest. Then came Netflix and a couple of episodes of Better Call Saul. Bliss!
Lunch was a proper treat too. I actually took the time to cook something decent, not just the usual grab-and-go. It felt so good to sit down and savour a delicious meal without feeling rushed.
Then, sometime after lunch, I noticed the flashlight on my phone flashing, sitting innocently on the bedside table. Curiosity piqued, I picked it up… and instantly regretted it. A barrage of work notifications. Messages from yesterday. Missed calls. Apparently, the office couldn’t survive a single morning without my intervention. Honestly, the audacity!
I promptly put the phone back down. Nope. Not today. Today is my day. They can wait. They can figure it out themselves. Tomorrow I’ll stroll in, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed (hopefully!), and deal with whatever crisis has unfolded. If they want to moan about it, they can go right ahead. Maybe a little bit of self-reliance will do them good. Let them stew in their own incompetence for a few more hours. I, for one, am going to enjoy the rest of my well-deserved day off. Peace out, work drama! Tomorrow is another story.
Hope you’re enjoying the rest of your day off. Being too in touch with our jobs on our phones is awful sometimes. I get the same thing, I’m a lot of people’s go to at my work and it’s exhausting! I’ve had to learn to turn off notifications the evening before my day off and vow to myself to not go manually “check in” on Teams or Outlook. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.
