1660 A different kind of Sunday morning

It’s Sunday morning.  Any other Sunday morning and you’d find me at church, but both boys have colds (which they probably acquired at church, but that’s another conversation).  In an attempt to keep from infecting all the other infants & toddlers, we’ve opted to stay home and worship an alternate and lesser god… The Backyardigans.

Actually, Gus has a second round of croup.  In addition to the homeopathic (& temporary) course of treatment, he’s on the prescription drug of choice…Steroids.  He’s also displaying some of the classic side effects of the medication – anxiousness, sleeping problems, & hyperactivity.  Yes, my 2.5 year old has ‘Roid Rage.

I’ve always worn a sling to carry around my babies.  I started with the New Native and gravitated to the NoJo.  Both worked really well for the boys as infants, but I always gave the up when they grew heavier (20 + pounds is quite a bit of weight to carry around on one shoulder).  I love carrying my babies around, so I decided to try something new…a Mei Tai carrier (pronounced "May Tie").  I hunted online quite a bit (there are some really cute fabrics out there by different manufacturers), but in the end, I wanted it to be comfortable more than I wanted it to make a fashion statement!  I opted for the Kozy Carrier and I love it!  Actually, since Mattson is asleep in it this very moment, I’d say this one is a winner all around.

I like it because you can carry your child in front or behind you…

And this is a crazy picture showing how strong this carrier is…that’s the Kozy Carrier creator being worn on her husband’s back!

Mattson is 10 months old today.  These months have passed so quickly – I can’t believe how quickly his first birthday is approaching!

He’s such a wonderful baby!  He gave up on pacifiers very early & is a confirmed thumb sucker.  That left thumb gets a lot of action!

He’s a much better sleeper than Gus.  He still cries out at night sometimes, which isn’t so conducive to having the boys sleep in the same room, however.

Mattson is a great eater!  I make him homemade babyfood (defrost a bag of frozen veggies and puree it in your food processor with water to thin it when needed).  On a whim I offered him pureed spinach the other night & he totally loved it!  I’d prefer that he eat homemade fruits/veggies, but that isn’t always possible, so we do give him regular Gerber babyfood (2nd foods).  Our pediatrician told us that after a baby masters 2nd foods, there’s no need to feed them 3rd foods – just go straight to your own regular tablefood.  It worked for Gus, so that’s the plan for Mattson, too.

The poor little bugger still has zero teeth!  He’s been teething since 3 months, but nothing has cut yet.  So, some tablefoods are still out of the question, unless I puree them.  Pureed meat (aka: chicken pudding)…bleh.  He does love gumming those cheerios!  One he discovered those tasty morsels, he binged on them.  Which turned his poop into a dusty cement.  It took quite a bit of applesauce to moisten his system back up!  (Great…now I’m a one of those parents that waxes on about poop.)

Well speaking of eating…it looks like my babies could use a little lunch.

5 Things That Make Me Happy:

  1. chubby baby cheeks
  2. the way Gus greets us in the morning, "Hi Mommy Daddy!  I had a good nap!"
  3. the ubercuteness of thumbsucking
  4. when Gus offers Mattson a toy in exchange for the one he plans to snatch away!
  5. Mattson’s laugh…he sounds like a machine gun
  6. really good music…

Mark Schultz – I Am
From the album Mark Schultz Live

I am the maker of the Heavens
I am the bright and morning star
I am the breath of all Creation
Who always was
And is to come

I am the One who walked on water
I am the One who calmed the seas
I am the miracles and wonders
So come and see
And follow me
You will know
Chorus:
I am the fount of living water
The risen Son of man
The healer of the broken
And when you cry
I am your savior and redeemer
Who bore the sins of man
The author and perfecter
Beginning and the end
I am

I am the spirit deep inside you
I am the word upon your heart
I am the One who even knew you
Before your birth
Before you were

Chorus:

Before the Earth (I am)
The universe (I am)
In every heart (I am)
Oh, where you are (I am)
The Lord of love (I am)
The King of Kings (I am)
The Holy lamb (I am)
Above all things

Chorus:

Yes, I am almighty God your father
The risen son of man
The healer of the broken
And when you cry
I am your savior and redeemer
Who bore the sins of man
The author and perfecter
Beginning and the end
I am

I remember when we were little and still attended church regularly, my mom would always make us listen to Christian music on Sundays that we skipped. 🙂 ryn: thanks so much for your kind words. It is definitely a worrisome situation, but I’m trying to remain positive.

You sound pretty happy! I’m looking forward to trying a mei tai with my second; I was pretty loyal to my pouch slings (since that’s what I make and sell!) but the lure of the back carries possible with a mei tai makes me eager to try one out!

RYN: It’s not nearly as bad as getting it put in. I had one before, and removal was a non-event. I have heard of women who have had difficult removals, though, so take my experience with a grain of salt. You thinking of doing this kid thing again?

My nephew is a thumb sucker (even at the age of 3…but oh, well) and the absolute BEST baby. Your boys sounds so sweet!

“I had a really good nap…” That is too cute!!! Love it! My nephews have taken to asking to give the meal prayer. Saturday we ate at my mom’s as always and Dito gave the prayer… It lasted 5 solid minutes and he said thank you to God for everyone at least 3 times. We were cracking up but still – he prayed and prayed well! Little things like that make me smile.

Love hearing about your boys. Have you heard anything about home veggies having too high levels of certain things? Back when my son was a baby, I looked into making my own food but read something about how certain veggies have too high levels of something that I can’t remember and that baby food companies screen for this stuff. So I opted for the organic baby food. Do you have any clue what I am talking about? Or was I snowed by the baby food companies?
