1684 Nights without U kinda suck

Saucy Scale: 7

You might’ve missed my last entry, b/c it took me forever to get it finished and then resaved as a public entry.

My darling hubby is away on business.  I am lucky that his career does not typically involve a great deal of travel.  I don’t think I’d be very happy if he were away a lot.  When we were children, my daddy spent about 75% of his time away on business trips.  It didn’t do a whole lot to build a solid foundation for a relationship with our dad.  Which is NOT something I wish for TBU and the boys.

So, bless his mom’s heart…TBU’s mom has come to spend a few days with me.  Which is really quite sweet of her.  It has been nice to have an extra set of eyes and hands on the boys during the day.

Last night was a weird night around here.  At about the same time that I was crawling into bed for the night, Mattson woke ups screaming.  I tried to let him calm himself down and go back to sleep, but he was having none of it.  He’d calm down for a few minutes & then build up another head of steam.  After 30-40 minutes, I decided I really did need to go see what I could do for him.  When I offered him a nummy (the easiest way to calm him down and back to sleep), he turned his back to me.  LITERALLY.  He turned his head & then rolled away from me.  The only thing I could do for him (that he would allow me to do for him) was to hold him tightly in my arms and talk to him.  He sucked his thumb and used his other hand to deathgrip my thumb.  We slept like that until 2:15…when I heard Gus open his door and head out into the hall.  So, I prayed Mattson would sleep deeply enough that I could get him back into his crib…so that I could go hunt down Gus-Gus.

I found Gus standing at the foot of our bed (on his daddy’s side of the bed) trying to figure out why we weren’t answering him.  I asked him if he wanted to sleep with me (something we just don’t allow him to do).  I told him that he would have to go to sleep & that if he couldn’t do that, he’d have to go back to his own bed.  He was such a dear boy.  I put him into bed on daddy’s side.  I covered him with the blankie.  I moved the alarm clock b/c it was too bright in his eyes.  When I climbed back into bed, we held hands.  I don’t know if he fell asleep quickly, but I did.  We woke up again about 5:45.  I took off his shoes (the clubfoot shoes) and we were able to get back to sleep.  Nobody in this house was awake until 7:15 this morning…which was a miracle!

Gusser had swim lessons today.  His teacher wasn’t there, so the head lifeguard jumped in the pool to teach all the childrens’ lessons this morning.  He made that boy WORK this morning.  Gus was exhausted halfway through the lesson.  You could just see how little energy was left in him.  But I was impressed by how much skill the boy showed.  These other teachers have been too wishy washy with him!  Grandma even brought the video camera to swim lessons.  Those will be fun to watch later on.

After a nice lunch with Uncle Boogie, Gus was ready to go home and chill out with Grandma for awhile.  Unfortunately for Mattson, we had our 1 year appointment to keep with the pediatrician.  Mattson is doing great & received a nice clean bill of health.  Then he got 3 shots.  Poor darling.

Hopefully we’ll all sleep better…and in our own rooms…tonight.  That would be nice.

Speaking of which, it’s 11:30 and I know the potential for a middle of the night wake-up-call from one of the boys is a distinct possibility.  I better try to get some sleep now, while I can.  The dog is already asleep and sleep-yipping next to me.

Nighty-night.

5 Things That Make Me Happy:

  1. My boys are wonderful.  I love them more every day.
  2. TBU seems to be enjoying his training & "getaway".
  3. Luckily, they are a family friendly company willing to fly him home for the weekend.
  4. Grandma U

Sam had a weird night too! I put him to bed at 10 pm (I know, he is such a night owl) and at 11pm he was not sleeping, but not crying.. then five minutes later he was hysterical. I brought him out of bed and he just clutched to me. I don’t know what was going on! Maybe it was something in the air?? I’m so glad you have your MIL to help you. It really does make a world of difference. I haven’t checked my notes, I dont know if you left me one, but Gus’s shirt is up on my etsy site and ready for you whenever you’re ready. 🙂

My oldest used to get night terrors. He would be seem to be awake, and would be screaming and inconsolable. Then he’d pretty much just plop back off to sleep and recall nothing of it the next day. Your boys sound so sweet. =;p

It sucks when the hubby is away. I have had several nights where I wrap Ry in my arms & sing the same 3 songs over & over again to him while I smooch his cheeks. I’m not sure if he actually falls asleep before I do or not! It’s wonderful the U gets to fly home for the weekend!
