1719 Gloomy to Sunny
Saucy Scale: 7
This morning was really gray and gloomy. It was pouring down rain. We had to cancel our plans to attend our weekly Nursery School Play Group, which was a bummer. It was so dark & dreary outside that we had to turn on the lights in the house. What a nasty way to start the day. …and I’ve got one of those fun headaches that I get when the weather is nasty.
Twice this morning Gus has procrastinated in getting to the potty on time & I’ve discovered a puddle on the floor in front of the potty. This facet of potty training is particularly not fun with morning sickness.
After our breakfast, Mattson was covered in yogurt. He needed a bath, so we invited Gus to hop in too. So there were a few minutes of shared bubbly-goodness.
Mattson is a man of few words. He’s perfectly happy pointing, grunting, & using his sign language to get what he wants. He has been taking his sweet time adding any new words to his repetoire. This weekend he added a few goodies. He picked up his pretend cellphone & finally answered with a friendly, "hello!". The other one isn’t so much a word as a funny little phrase he copied from the rest of us… Using his perfect comedic timing, he copied us in saying, "ay yi yi!"
I popped on the news to try to catch the extended forecast & they were in the middle of the health segment, which happened to feature organ donation & transplants. Imagine my shock to see my mommy’s transplant surgeon as the featured expert. Kind of took my breath away for a second. I couldn’t catch the whole story, but I was able to DVR the end of it. I checked the website, but the story link isn’t posted yet.
I miss my mommy today.
Last night I was online doing some restaurant recon work. TBU and I are having dinner with a friend of ours tomorrow night & I wanted to send him some info so he could select the restaurant. Then I started talking to another gal about her upcoming visit to Chicagoland. Between these two out-of-towners, I spent a fair amount of time looking at online menus. Now, I’m just hungry for yummy downtown Chicago food.
This morning I watched an episode of America’s Test Kitchen from our DVR. Gus was watching it with me. When the chef grabbed a few garlic cloves Gus really perked up. He went running to the playroom for his basket of plastic "food". He produced the head of garlic and the onion and "cooked" right along with the show. He even remembered that earlier in the show she had coated the chicken with flour & he wanted some flour (ummm…yeah, here’s some flour right here!).
Tomorrow morning Gus has a play date with the daughter of my acquaintance Munchausen (I really do need to write that entry about her. It’s just so freaking draining!) Wish us luck. I’m not really looking forward to it.
The weather is looking less glum & gloomy. Maybe I should try to gather the boys for a Target Run before lunch and nap-time.
5 Things That Make Me Happy:
- No matter which restaurant our buddy chooses, mama’s gonna get a yummy dinner tomorrow night!
- It looks like we might get a sunny afternoon today.
- "ay yi yi!"
- "I have garlic, mommy!"
- being home to watch my children learn & grow
I can’t imagine potty training a boy and having morning sickness at the same time. That’s a whole lot of bathroom cleaning going on. I can’t remember exactly what your mommy died of (I know it was kidney related) but my friend is on dialysis 3 days a week and I’d like to send him the link if you can find it.
