1779 A day in the life
Saucy Scale: 4-10 (it was a long day)
First, thanks to you wonderful folks who volunteered to send Care Packages to the wounded soldiers that our friend is serving (and if you don’t know what I’m talking about, go back one entry).
START WRITING ENTRY THIS MORNING:
My in-laws were back here again for the beginning of the week. Which was such a wonderful support for me. Of course, instead of napping while they are here, I plan lunch dates and run around trying to get errands run while I am child-free. So, I have a good time & I get things done, but I’m exhausted.
And the boys have a GREAT time while they are here. It is horrendously cold here and Grandma & Grandpa are willing to take them out to play in the child play-areas (read: e-coli pits) at the mall to burn off some steam. An outing to the mall is something I simply have no energy to do with the boys these days. (Moreover, I detest the e-coli pits & can’t stand watching my children play there.)
Today is supposedly a school day for both boys.
Unfortunately, it is more than cold here…it is -15 degrees. Yes, that was NEGATIVE FIFTEEN degrees. And the windchill makes it feel like -34, so the local school district is closed today. As a result, both the nursery school and Parents Day Out close when the schools in our district close. Gus was totally devastated to learn that he couldn’t go see his friends & teachers today!
Darnitall! I was really looking forward to going to one of those joints for a pedicure & maybe waddling thru a bookstore for a little bit.
I’ve needed a pedicure since before Thanksgiving. I keep putting it off. Seriously, how hard is it to take one hour away to go take care of my hooves? Apparently, harder than you’d think when you chase 2 Monkeys during the day and have no energy at night!
Ok, this is stupid. Next week, when my mother-in-law comes back for a few days, I am going to make this a priority. ‘Cause let’s face it…it might be my last chance to do so before these babies arrive!
Speaking of my 2 darling Monkeys…they just grabbed all the pillows & blankets and made a big communal nest on the floor. It was all kinds of lovey-dovey cuteness! Now, it has turned into an episode of Ultimate Fighting…a little less cute for my tastes.
CHILD-REARING DELAY IN ENTRY WRITING…
RESUME ENTRY WRITING AT 1:46PM:
Poor Gus was really upset about being trapped inside today. We’ve had some "issues". I got so tired of hearing the screaming and "MINE!", that I had to put all the trains on a time-out for the rest of the day. I scooped them into the storage box & took the box to the garage. Where, Gus was traumatized b/c he thought I was throwing them away forever.
Then I told him the playroom was a mess & that we had to put everything away. After much screaming, tears, and gnashing of teeth…my little boy said the meanest thing he could possible come up with: "I want a new mom!". I don’t know where the heck he got that garbage, but not cool.
We watched a few new episodes of Backyardigans. Wait, let me re-phrase that…we watched the newest episode a few times. Yes, that was what really took place. The Backyardigans seemed to re-set Mr. Gus’s attitude problem.
My "Stork Mom Mentor" called me today. This is a mom from my Mother of Multiples (MOMs) group who can help mentor me through the birth and first year with the twins. Our twins group is also great about providing meals to the families with new twins…my mentor will coordinate that for me. Today, though…she just let me chat and enjoy some adult conversation for a few minutes. A God send, to be sure!
I found a 2nd changing table in Craigslist today. (It’s purely coincidental that she’s the mom of twins & trying to unload her baby gear.) I lost out on a changing table last weekend & that bummed me out. This one isn’t quite as great as the one I lost, but it’s still a good one & a good deal. Not to mention it isn’t too far away, so pick-up shouldn’t be a huge hassle.
We warmed up last night’s dinner leftovers for lunch. A church friend brought us some serious comfort food last night! Cheesey potatoes w/ ham and cornbread. A little salty, but nevertheless YUM! It has been a serious test of my willpower not to eat every last one of her uber-yummy peanut butter cookies! (If I find out those cookies are a mix, I’ll be shocked!)
Over Christmas holiday, my children decided that they love to eat clementines (those cute little oranges). Which thrills me to no end! A full-size orange has always been hard on Gusser’s little system. Not too be too graphic, but too much orange = atomic variety diaper rash (back when he still wore diapers). They need their vitamin C, but the nice kid-size snack seems to suit their systems better.

AND INSERT PLAY-TIME DELAY HERE…</p>
AND DON’T FORGET DINNER TIME DELAY HERE…
I’ve got 15 minutes until it is time to take the Monkey Boys upstairs for bedtime!
TBU was invited out with guy friends for dinner tonight. The poor guy never gets out on his own, so I wanted him to go. I was worried that the boys & I would be at the end of our collective ropes after being cooped up in the house together all day, but it seems we’re ending the day on a high note.
Alrighty…INSERT BEDTIME DELAY HERE…
I broke down and ordered that horrendous doctor recommended full-body preggo support belt thing. It hasn’t arrived yet. My lower body is in excrutiating pain & I am actually looking forward to attempting to wriggle into it. I’ll keep you posted.
I also broke down and bought a bigger pair of maternity pants…with full squishy belly panel & everything. It was annoying to have to buy a pair of pants with less than 2 months left to wear them, but my current pants were getting tight. I lucked out and found 2 super cute maternity shirts on multiple marked-down clearance. Ca-Ching!
I’m still in my jammies from this morning.
I’m going through our DVR trying to find something…anything worth watching tonight! Our DVR is easily 90% or more of stuff we’ve taped for the boys. There’s some stuff taped for us to watch together (CSI, 24, Dirty Jobs, etc.) and there’s the crapola I tape because I like mindless crapola (Real Housewives of Someplace Tacky, Intervention, Rookies, Parking Wars, etc.). Tonight I’m trying to get caught up on my episodes of Top Chef New York.
So, as you can see…I do have both a very exciting & glamourous life.
Tomorrow morning I DEFINITELY need to take a shower…regardless of whether Gusser’s nursery school is cancelled!
Hubby just arrived hom from his night out with the boys & brought me very favorite pizza ever. He’s a dear dear man.
5 Things That Make Me Happy:
- The boys and I survived the day. More importantly, they are upstairs in bed.
- There’s pizza calling my name!
- The babies are both jumping around like crazy…I think they want some pizza, too!
Hurry! I need 2 more things so I can go eat pizza!
- We’ve got a nice warm house & no frozen pipes!
- PIZZA!
Your life has certainly changed since I first started reading you. You were moving into your first apartment in the big city. Wow, soon you will be a mother of four!

Bullet-note time! *I would love to chat again, too. Let’s schedule a phone call! *-15 degrees is unacceptable. This is why I live in L.A. *Pedicures are a priority!! And you have the perfect excuse to indulge, what with that belly-full of baby in your way and all. *I bought the support belt thingy but never used it. It was uncomfortable to sit in, I think that’s why. Then again, I was lying on my left side 3 hours a day… not chasing around after two boys. Couch cushions provide the extra support I needed! Hee! *The last few weeks of my pregnancy I LIVED in XL Men’s Pajama bottoms. Seriously… none of my other pregnancy pants fit. Again – lying on my left side didn’t demand huge feats of fashion, so… OK, I think that’s it. Hang in there, mama. 31 weeks, you’re doing amazing!!

The weather is completely insane here. I hope it warms up soon so you don’t have to be cooped up with the kiddos too much longer!
Warning Comment
Oh if I could send you some warmer weather I would gladly send you at least 50 degrees. At least you are not boiling hot though. You certainly chose a good time of year to be 7 months along with twins. How’s the baby gear scavenge going?

Still laughing to myself at e coli pits. So true. So very true.

You have been busy for sure, I hope it isn’t too crazy when the babies come! Good luck in the next few months!
