Noticed?
Have you ever noticed when something happens to Americans, we go to war, we get attacked, someone insults us publicly (like an entire nation) that americans get suddenly very patriotic?
I notice a rash of emails or sudden entries in OD, or articles in papers about patriosm when something happens to the US.
But I want to know this, are those people patriotic the rest of the time?
A little quiz to find out?
Why is July 4th celebrated?
When is Veterns day, and what is it for?
The three day weekend at the end of May is what holiday and why do we have it? (Hint: Its truely not to celebrate the first day of summer)
Can you state the entire pledge of alegience to the US flag by heart? (Yeah I know you’ve not said it since you were a kid but can you remember the words?)
What does the bald eagle represent to Americans?
What is Old Glory?
Can you sing all the correct words to the Star Spangled Banner?
What is freedom to you?
I’ll give my answers in my next entry, but I first want to see what you might reply.
ryn: I did did a check on it. I’m not sure of the website that I used, but Scorpio is indeed my sun sign, due to when I was born and where. I’ll try and find the link if you want.

The 4th is celebrated because on July 4, 1776 Americans declared their independence from England. Veteran’s Day was officially the end of World War I and was established to honor the veterans of WWI. It was originally called Armistice Day. Memorial Day is now the trivialized commemoration of the those who died in the Civil War. The Bald Eagle is the National Bird… (cont)

Old Glory is the flag of the United States (although there are differing opinions as to whether it’s the current flag or some earlier version of the US Flag, and yes, I do know all the words to the Star Spangled Banner and the Pledge of Allegiance. Hugs

I’m not particularly patriotic – I don’t understand all of that flag-waving rahrah stuff at all… but I love my country – I love the koalas and the gum trees and the distinctive smell of eucalyptus in the bush (just not in my bathroom! ugh!) And the laid-back ‘she’ll be right mate’ attitude of so many Aussies… there are LOTS of things I love 🙂

And it doesn’t take a special day to make me feel that. Australia Day is a load of bulldust! They tried to encourage people to take an ‘oath of Australianism’ on the day to ‘reaffirm their love of the country’ but I wouldn’t do it if you held a gun to my head! I love my country quietly and in my heart 24/7, and the sort of things I love about it aren’t written on paper (HUGGLES)

Re your note, you’re a real sweetheart Jen!! But I wouldn’t take your money because I know how tight things are for you… you need it a lot more than I do. Why is it always the people who have the least who are the most generous and caring? (HUGGLES)
