pictures from the ether I didn’t vanish into

Otherwise known as the South Carolina Charleston. I’d call it the Real Charleston, but don’t want West Virginia mad at me. We’ve been back since Monday night, and I loaded all my pictures onto Flickr each night I was there (thank you, wonderful  speedy TMobil wireless that for some reason I didn’t even have to pay for the second night!), so I have no excuse for my absence. Other than a generalized funk which probably stems from having to leave the sun and heat and flowers and loveliness, and come back to… well, sun, heat and loveliness, actually. And flowers, even, although not like the tropical south. So really, no excuse. I’ll blame dial-up, though. I am busy enough at work not to have time for playing online. I’ve also been fighting a cold and trying to finish that last Harry Potter book. Which I have spent so much time reading that Baker B accuses me of having Potteritis. I think it’s kind of adding to the blues, too, cause duuuuudes, that book is depressing.  Reading the last three in a row probably doesn’t help. I should be done tonight…. FINALLY.

But in the meantime, until I have something of interest to say, here are a hundred and eleventy twelve pictures of my favorite escape:

These are around the Battery-

King Street:

Somewhere all historical. Like the entire place is, actually.

I think he was on King Street – I don’t know if I’m imagining it or not, but it seems like there used to be way more of these iron horse heads years ago. Now you don’t see many of them.

Rainbow Row:

I do love my reflection shots.

No trip to Charleston is complete without a visit to Magnolia Cemetery. Or, as we like to refer to it, Necropolis.

Baker B on the Battery. The water was really rough – it’s usually quite calm here.  Turns out it was because of Gabrielle. Happily for us, Gabrielle headed towards the Outer Banks and we didn’t get a drop of rain and the skies were blue the entire trip.

Sullivan’s Island, where the ships appear to be running right up onto the beach.

Get in here and buy something, NOW!

No!!!! Don’t go!!!! You can have one more pint of Cooper River Red! Really, you can!!!

ryn – Sandie has to stay out of public places the second week after each chemo because her resistance will be extremely low. Since the MIL is in adult day care the doctor says she absolutely can’t be around Sandie. I LOVE the reflection shots. especially the old brick building with two stories of lovely wavey old windows. and the others too. You’re a REALLY good photographer.

Nice shots.

I knew that you’d post some really good pics, but these are terrific! I can hardly wait to visit there.

I want to go! One of the trips on my list of places to go.

You are so funny – me a food model! Your mother is the ultimate. She hasn’t kept sugar in the house for decades.

ryn: and to you! she’s had shoes “prescribed” because she had diabetes, granted controlled with diet, but because she has neuropathy which was supposed to have been due to the diabetes. she sees this schmucky dr next week. so annoying dealing with these drs who think they are God!

Those first palm trees look like aliens in a Saturday Night Live sketch. I was thinking about you when I heard about the storm heading there and was thinking, no no! Don’t go, these people need a break! Wonderful color and light and all coin of the realm.

Umm, that was me.

I think she’s a Valley Girl without a gray cell in her head, but I doubt saying that to the principal will help the situation. BD says she’s an “excellent person” but not much of a teacher. I need to let this go. Right???

We’ve had a misting, pretty good considering we’re in the midst of a draught too. I’m not ususally up this late. I dropped out of early Saturday morning yoga so have developed nocturnal Friday nights. Please take lots of autumn photos of the mountains. xxoo

Very nice pictures! 🙂

I think that guy in the second last pic is the partner of the pic at the top of your diary – hasn’t he got weird eyes though – wonder if they were supposed to turn out like that??!
