wind in the willows (2)

 So today we finished Wind in the Willows. The day started of really badly when I missed the bus to school. I was definitely on time at the bus stop, which meant time to read Harry Potter (Goblet of Fire). I was completely engrossed in one of the final chapters, and so, of course, I missed it. At some point I looked up and saw the back of the bus just driving away from me. The next bus came 20 minutes later, which meant I had to walk really fast to get to class on time.

Luckily I was just on time. There wasn’t any time left to get nervous, nor was there time to compose myself and settle down. I did take some time, however, while Fransy was taking the register (this was a class taught by the two of us). After this I put the characteristics of Toad, Mole, Rat and Badger on the board. This time in a legible way. Then we watched and discussed the DVD.

After Fransy’s discussion and reading aloud of part of the text I turned to another set of questions regarding the DVD.

Jeffrey (my teacher) seemed very pleased w/ this lesson. He made copies from our handout for himself, and also wants to get the DVD to use in his own lessons.

The children all seemed very interested, but it is always difficult to make them speak in a foreign language. Should I have allowed them to answer the questions in Dutch in order to get more interaction and more response to my questions? But how else are they going to learn this widely spread (geographically) and global language?
