Misc pictures (and lots of ’em)

Enough with the negativity.

Life’s too long to waste on penny-ante shit.

Signs- I see signs all over that this phase of my life is in the end game times.

Time to move on.

And how better to do that than to look back and see where I’ve been?

stonehenge, maryhill, washington

2000.  The summer I graduated with a BA in Social Sciences,  K* and I drove to Maryhill, Washington, to the life-size recreation of Stonehenge that Henry Hill built there in Maryhill, the village/town named for his wife, the former Hungarian princess.  It is about a three hour drive from Portland.

on the us/mexican border

Here I am, in 1994, on the US/Mexican border, in Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument.

in the silver boom town of jerome, arizona

Here I am, in Jerome, Arizona, in 1985, a town we visited on our honeymoon trip across the United States.  Jerome was a mining town, where a lode of silver was removed from the 660 miles of tunnels below the town in central Arizona.

1993

I’m pretty sure this was the last time I rode a horse, in 1993.  The rental stable we rode from is gone, as is this hillside.  Both have been replaced by an upscale housing estate.

Our loss.

i was sixteen in this shot

Here I am, sixteen years old, on the mesa above my school, which you can make out behind me and to my right.  I have a better haircut now, but I haven’t really changed much in the 28 years since.

A little less confused, a lot less lost.

1984

On the banks of the Damariscotta river, in Wiscasset, Maine, in 1984.  Behind me are the last four masted schooners in existance, grounded on the river’s bank.

I’ve been grounded where I am now for almost 8 years, and stuck in Oregon for over ten years now.  If I could, I might well move on.  There is more to see and do and to be.

If I could, I almost surely would.

If I only could, I surely would.*

These ships and I are alike – immobile, decaying away in some backwater.  This is the hand we’ve been dealt – thank God I have a better hand than they do- I’m here now, but they are still there.

I don’t envy them at all.

Hmm. One might think I like hats…and one would be right.

I love Paul Simon, and Simon and Garfunkle also. Paul had the brains and Art had the voice. If you move on, you will still stay here, won’t you? 😉

Those lines are from “El Condor Pasa”! Yep, I like Simon ‘n Garfunkle. I think of the ships not so much as being stuck in a backwater and decaying….but as being treasure-troves of memories and tales just waiting on the right moment to be told, or the right person to come along and hear them. hugs, Weesprite

I have two questions for you! (1) what is your favorite place you ever visited? and (2) if you won a free trip to ANYplace in the world that you’ve not yet been, where would you choose to go? also, ryn: ironically, I did the exact same thing w/ the BIIIIIG photos as I did with the ones that came out just the right size. Why would some turn out different, then, I wonder? hugs, Weesprite

I do, I do like Simon and Garfunkel! Thanks for your note. I am feeling surprising upbeat and positive. Perhaps it is denial…but, here I sit with a pot of coffee (illicitly obtained for me by the wonderful nursing staff), with my computer illicitly co-opting the phone line (could not break into the encrypted wireless, mores the pity)…Tim is in relatively good spirits…I slept ok…Linette

Love Simon&Garfunkle… 🙂 Without a doubt, you make for a great photography subject… 🙂 the stonehenge recreation one has such a solitary “man against the world” tone to it… lovely.

ryn: the 2 girls in that image aren’t mine… my daughter towered well over them, if that gives you any perspective of things. LoL (She’s over 6ft)

You have been to some wonderful places. I like that you share them with us. I wonder if you want to move on figuratively or move to a new town. My brother has moved many times, but his happiness finally came when he met the woman who became his wife.
