short follow up

The only person hurt in yesterday’s airshow crash was the pilot of the jet that crashed.  He died in the crash.  He was 74 and the jet was older than I am..  An as yet undetermined mechanical failure lead to the crash.  One house was destroyed (literally- nothing left of it) and three others were burned to some degree- jet fuel burns very hot.  One family was home at the time but in the other end of their house- no one was hurt.  It could have been worse.

The fires burning near Big Bear have merged and last I heard covered 74,000 acres, but are moving north away from populated areas, and my friend Jhni and her daughter are not in harm’s way.  Jhni says the town is very crowded with "flatlanders" up to see the spectacle and that the town has done nothing to discourage them.  She had to evacuate several years ago when another fire threatened Big Bear and is pissed, because there were so many people fleeing that the two roads open (out of three open usually) were packed and what is normally a twenty minute drive down Hwy 18 to Lucerne took her over seven hours then.  Her house is by the airport and close to the headquarters of the firefighters and is backed by a slough off the lake- she isn’t too worried.  If I thought I could help her, I’d go down there, but it’s a 1000 mile drive that took me 22 hours the last time I drove there, so it would not be the best of plans to do that.  She is a survivor and I’m not overly worried about her or her daughter.  (some, yeah, but not overly)

I talked to the boss this morning- he just happened to go to the store where we park and which is my last stop (two blocks from my apartment).  He found that the route is totally do-able with just the one stepvan on Sundays since the window of opportunity to get the papers out is wider on Sunday mornings than it is on Saturday mornings; so I told him that if he wants, I can repeat my Saturday performance- I can do both the Saturday deliveries and the third of the Sundays that I delivered on Saturday too.  Yeah, I am a good employee, and it is an important thing to get the papers out- worth it to me and to our customers.  The upshot is that doofus, or number two or number nine,  or whatever I’m calling him today has pretty much talked himself out of a job.

Hear that sound?  That’s the sound of my heart breaking for him.  Loser.

Ok, just a quick follow up to what I wrote on the past few days.  Now, it’s off to bed for a few hours and then down to the North Clackamas Education District offices to get that school bus driver’s application, then I’ll be back to post what I’ve been tagged (twice!) to post.

(one more note.  I had plans to use the SS payment to not only pay off my debts but also to get my commercial driver’s license back.  The school bus driver’s position offers paid training to get…Ta Daa!  A commercial driver’s license.  My plans change, but remain the same)

I am a fortunate Cat.

things really do have a way of working out. the SS thing didn’t go through (because someone’s an idiot) – and now this one’s come along. hang in there, cat – i know i say that a lot, but it seems like if you can just get through this bit, every time, the next bit makes it a little bit better. bit by bit.

Hi! i am so glad Jhni and her daughter have missed the serious effects of the fire.It would have beensad to see the forest and surounding area burnt again. I saw that you live near Mount St.Helens.Were you there when it erupted a few years ago? Or were you evacuated?

ooh, good plan!

ryn: your brownies sound better than mine. hmph.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your notes. Thank you for sharing. Thank you for your compassion. I do feel better for having tossed all this out there. I’m stunned by the notes I got, many of them private, from other women (I think you were the only man, kudos to you) who shared similar experiences. I don’t feel nearly as alone in my shame. Thank you. Thank you.

Hi! I was just having lunch out on the back verandah when I thought of something you wrote. You siad that after your accident you didn’t come to Jesus. So I was just wondering something.I know you beleive that God is real right? You have been praying to him, and he has been answering right? So would it be so difficult to see that God’s son exists too?
