LAST ONE FOR 2008

Here it is, the last night of 2008.  We watched a couple of movies – "Wanted" with Angelina Jolie, and "Tremors", an older film but fun to watch…and the scenary doesn’t look too different than those we’ve explored around here.

 

Just barely after 11 pm here, now, and Jhni’s already in bed.

 

I finally heard from my cousin; we’ll meet for lunch tomorrow, and my brother will be there too.  A nice way to begin 2009, I think.  It’s been two decades or more since I saw any of the family.  Jhni’s driving me down to the valley, but she says she doesn’t do family well (and, an understatement.  There is, believe me, a whole Southern Gothic Novel there) and so she’ll drop me off and go shopping until I call her.  We’ll come back up here, and I’ll stay Thursday night too and leave sometime Friday.

I have a school bus to drive on Monday.

The original plan had me gone from home 9 days, and some time down here in California, but the weather got in the way of that one and so this week, I’m gone just five nights…maybe six.  I’d like to get back on Saturday and so have some time to rest up before work on Monday morning (…before sunrise…).  Both coming and going have been/will be at speed – I’ve driven it for economy last summer, but this time, with cheap gas?  Speed limit or above all the way.  And, 33 miles a gallon ain’t bad at all.

Well, getting old ain’t for sissies, they say, and that bed over there has my name on it.  (I want to point out that it’s a single bed – not that kind of friends)

Goodbye 2008.  You weren’t. for me, a bad year; in fact, you were the best one yet, probably.  I’d love to continue this upwards and onwards thing; I hope 2009 is a decent year.  Probably shouldn’t hope for a "better" year than this last year, but I don’t, definately, want a worse year.

I wish my readers the best in the coming year – to those who’ve already seen the New Year come, I wish you too a good year.  May we all prosper and thrive.
