I’m the IT guy here

Before I went to bed last night, I set my Spybot program up to run over night.  Usually, it doesn’t find anything, but this morning, when I got up, I found that it had and asked it to correct the problems.  It got rid of 7 of 9 problems right away, but then it said to get the other two, I needed to restart the machine, because they were in locked files.

I’ve been sort of skittish about restarts and shutdowns lately because I had to use System Restore to start it up last week – something I had done unintentionally had prevented Windows from restarting.  When it did start up, I left it on for a few days, afraid I’d not get my computer to work again – the end of my world, lol.

except it isn’t at all funny

I took a deep breath this morning and hit Restart.  2 hours and 40 minutes later, it finally did restart, after going through the registry checks and fixing problems.  Since the screen showed nothing happening, at least obviously, I almost pulled the plug and did a full on cold restart, but then the windows screen blinked and added new text – so it was obviously working silently and doing it’s job without fanfare.

For over two and a half hours.

(did I screw up?  Did it?  Will it ever work again?  STRESS)

I know a lot of my life revolves around the computer – without it, I can’t check email at home, I can’t look at OD, I can’t write or edit pictures – in short, OMFG, will it work????

It finally ran through all the checks and repairs and viola, here I am, up and running.

I ran AVG virus checker every night.  Spybot lurks in the background, protecting the computer, and MSN’s Security Essentials runs all the time.  I suppose that overhead slows down my web brousing, but better safe than sorry, I think, and look at me now!  Up and running and none the worse for wear – I even cooked some eggs while I was waiting and had the mornng news on – fully caught up on what’s happening, so I’m full, online, and not unhappy.

I’m the IT guy here, and sometimes I think I know what I’m doing.

I have problems too with my laptop – only I do not have the fortune of being IT literate! Tonight mine took an hour to load up (or not)from sleep mode (I too have fear of switching damned thing off), fail more than once, restart then strange messages telling me it is correcting error, deleting index entries, recovering orphaned files. OMG (might be F in there too) – I can’t live like this! Best A

Malwarebytes is an excellent program if you are having a lot of issues with that kind of stuff.
