9 days pt10
Cascade Locks marked the farthest east we drove on my birthday last week; from ther we turned west and headed onto The Old Columbia River Highway, US 30:

There’s something about these bottom lands along the river that call to me; maybe it’s the colors.

From 1916 until the early 70’s, THIS was the road through the gorge – the only sea-level pass through the thousand mile Cascades Range.

Washington in the distance.

We just drove west and passed all the waterfalls – on other days, we stopped at all of them, and I have hundreds of pics to choose from to show off "my" Gorge.

This road passes all the falls I usually stop at; today, we just stopped at Bridal Veil Falls.
We didn’t walk down to the falls this visit; we stayed on the Cliff trail above the river.

The rails run next to Interstate 84, along the first "highway" in the area, the Columbia River.
<next up, the last couple of stops in the Gorge March 8th>

I like the colours of early spring…the dead grass and the blues.
