Saturday morning

Word is that the Unemployment cuts off this week. That’s kind of an "oh shit" moment.

I woke up fairly early for me on a Saturday when I don’t have to work; for nearly seven years, I worked on the weekends to distribute the newspapers. I got up and used the bathroom and laid down again, but got up anyway. I got out of bed thinking "I miss my cat" because he would have needed to be fed and have his morning insulin shot. A very intense sense of loss came over me as I made the coffee… and I heard a cat’s meow.

Imagination, dummy. You’re extra susceptible right now, I told myself.

"Meow?"

That is NOT my imagination, there is a cat at my door!

WTF?

I opened the door and a seal-point Siamese cat ran into my apartment.

Cue Twilight Zone theme.

A cat really did run in and he wandered around my apartment, which is exactly like every other apartment in this building, looking for… what I’m not sure, but he went to the kitchen and the floor where I used to keep my cat’s food and water. He kept meowing – "where is my…" Master, Food, I’m not sure, but my visitor was confused and upset and meowed pitifully.

I have a new neighbor – I have lived here for 13 years now and have seen people come and go, and the lady that moved in next door last year has a seal-point Siamese cat. I went and knocked on her door, twice.

Hmm, no answer. A thought: maybe she died and the cat got out – people are old here….

Well, before I think that, I thought, I should go downstairs and see if my neighbor is eating breakfast. It’s Saturday, and they have breakfast downstairs today. I looked back into my apartment and the cat was wandering around, looking, so I locked my door and the cat inside and went downstairs and found my neighbor right off.

Yes, she does have a Seal-point Siamese, and oh I’m sorry, he must have got past me when I came down, she said. We took the elevator upstairs and indeed, the Seal-point Siamese was her "Bandit". The cat (tug on my heart strings, whydoncha) did not want to leave; his owner had to pick him up, protesting, to get him home.

I had just been thinking, when I heard the first meow, that I could not have another cat, that life is too unpredictable right now, that I would continue to be lonely.

I still think that… but I have a little glow going on – I saved a cat!

LOL, it wasn’t much of a "save" but…

Onwards.

BTW, my Jpanese friend took the pictures in the last entry.
