Wow. I see my previous entry is Reader’s Choice for 9-26-12. Pretty neat, eh?

Sunset in the Columbia Gorge.

This spot is the last pull-off on I-84 eastbound in the Gorge itself, a wide place for trucks to check their brakes or to pause before entering Troutdale on the east side of the Portland metro area.

And just how cool would it be to drive this car?
Or to be driven in it?

This is the Western Air and Auto Museum in Hood River, Oregon. Behind the car is Boeing’s first airliner, used mainly for delivering Air Mail, and the new thing in the first couple of decades of the 20th century.

Back in the day, the Cord was THE coolest car on the road – and one of the most expensive:

This car set standards for designs of cars that have been followed ever since. Hidden headlights, the first production car radio installation, styling and design cues – and a V-12 engine for refined smoothness and power. The supercharged option made it the fastest car sold in the USA.
It was a favorite car for movie stars in the 1920’s and 30’s.

Cars come and go, but these falls have been here long before us and will be here long after we’re all gone:

Upper Horsetail Falls, the Columbia Gorge, Oregon.
There is a trail that goes under the falls, right to left diagonally through this picture.

Lower Horsetail Falls:

Stop and take a look sometime – this is just off I-84, on The Old Columbia River Highway.

Me and my friend from Japan:

Multnomah Falls is behind us, the second tallest year-round waterfalls in North America.

Big Bear Lake in southern California:

Over a mile high in the mountains above the Los Angeles basin, this was the first large artificial lake created in California. Previously this area was know for it’s Grizzly Bear population – they were big bears.

On the wall behind my computer monitor, I have a few pictures:

Pictures I’ve taken and printed, comics I cut from the paper, a drawing of my cat an OD friend sent me, and Flo, from Progressive Insurance, just because she sent me an autographed picture.

The Willamette River flooded in the early spring this year:

2000:

My beloved Blacky Cat died in January, 2012.
I miss him and, after almost 12 years of him here, I feel his loss very much.

The Columbia Gorge though is just about eternal:

Looking east into the Gorge, the Vista House on the right on the Oregon side and Washington state on the left.

The Auburn, Cord, and Duesenberg were all made in Auburn; where both of my parents (and my husband’s dad) grew up. We live about 30 minutes from there now.

I like all of this. The picture of the pictures especially. I love how we show our personalities in what we save and show and collect.
