Googling myself

The other day I downloaded a "Do Not Track" addition to the Google Chrome web browser I’m using now, and started reading stuff on their site. It gave me the idea of Goggling myself and seeing what comes up (it was recommended for job searching – they’re gonna Google YOU, so why not find out what they’d see?)

I thought I deleted that MySpace page years ago.

Kurtmundt.com comes up first, unsurprisingly – my website. And every address I’ve lived at in Portland… and phone numbers I haven’t had for years – even decades (I’ve been here 25 years now).

Five pages of my pictures come up if I look for myself under Images.

It’s sort of a movie cliché, that someone looks up someone else on Google, but cliché’s are based on however small a fact, and I guess a lot of people do that, Google names of dates or people they know or might know. Heh, I ‘ve wasted or spent several hours doing this. I ran my wife’s name in various forms – with my last name, with hers, in places and times.

I suppose this could be sort of scary – few people are anonymous.

Since none of us is anonymous in a sense we all are. I know that makes no sense but I find it a comfort.

it’s kind of scary huh?

No images of me come up when I google my name. Which is good. I’ve successfully avoided Facebook over the years and that has to help, too.

I don’t come up very often under either name, which is nice. Mostly if you Google me you get geneaology websites and dead people.

There is no harm in doing a quick search of yourself. 🙂
