Yard Sale is over with until Spring!!!
Wow, this yard sale was stressful. We kept putting it off and finally had to bite the bullet and just get through it. We had spent $50 on 2 ads after postponing it due to rain last week. We were sure tired of stepping all over the stuff too so it just had to either go in the sale or be packed up for the next one, but it couldn’t just keep staying put! We had staged everything in the family room which is part of the kitchen pretty much so not only were we having to climb over things to just move around but things were piling up in the kitchen making it difficult to work in there. It’s small enough after all! But once I managed to get a cookbook out of the bookcase, I couldn’t get it back in, and if I needed a file I had to crawl underneath the stuff to get to it and I sure wasn’t going back in to put it away! So all that stuff ended up in the kitchen til we cleaned out the stuff. Oh and just to add some spice to the pot, the temperature outside was dropping to freezing and my herb plants weren’t going to survive so they all had to come in with no place to put them. Our entire kitchen table has been taken up with them until we can clean up and I can make room so we just felt like the whole place was closing in on us.
But it’s over now thank goodness!! We made about $200 and got rid of some big stuff. Not everything but enough. Like the boy’s 2 bikes they had outgrown, and the basketball hoop and the playskool slide, oh! oh! and yes! the dreaded hated antique cash register that weighed a ton! That thing has been kicking around taking up room for no reason since I got here. It was something Dennis’ ex bought. Why I ask. Because it was an antique he answers. Huh? You don’t buy antiques just because they’re antiques, you buy them because you can use them or because you like them or can display them I explain. Well, I was preaching to the choir and my poor hubby was preaching to an idiot anytime he tried to talk his ex out of anything! LOL! So we got stuck with it and couldn’t sell it at the last yard sale either. In fact Dennis was afraid to go inside since he figured I’d start giving the stuff away just to get rid of it! (Damn! Foiled again! lol) But it’s gone! Yay! We also got rid of the hose and winding thingy it was on that we got stuck with from the in-laws. They are always doing that to us. If you can’t use it, they say, just toss it out. Yeah well it won’t fit in our garbage either! Sheesh! And we also did not sell the armoire. It is a big bulky piece of furniture (an antique that can actually be USED! lol) that I am no help with in moving. Dennis always has to call a friend over to help him with it. But this time no one was around so it was up to us to move it back in. Between the two of us (but mostly Dennis! lol) we got it laid down onto a wheelbarrow and once it was by the basement door, we got it laid on its side onto a blanket and pushed it in and then stood it up. Wow, that was an adventure and I announced that that armoire was NOT getting put into the next yard sale after being dragged out and then back in for 2 of them. That thing is not moving until we do!! But that’s ok, we are buying an old Victorian fixer upper with any luck so it will fit right in!
In the end though, we were cleaned up and all put away by 4PM which puts us in at 11 hours of working it since we got up at 5AM on a Saturday mind you to drag all this stuff out in 35 degree weather and without a lick of sunlight to help us see or warm us up until after 7AM. When it was all said and done, we just crashed. It was the last of our concert series tickets but we couldn’t see ourselves sitting out in the cold dark night for 4 or 5 hours and then driving home after that so we just put a fire in the fireplace and watched our netflix movie with some popcorn and then were in bed by 9! And we even had to recuperate most of yesterday too. Feeling pretty good today though but we sure are glad to be done with the yard sale.
Coming away with less stuff and a couple hundred dollars ahead sounds pretty good, even with all the hard work. But I can sure see how you would not be in a hurry to do it again.

Nice work. Did you sell coffee and goodies this time, too?

Yay! But why were you trying to get rid of the armoire? What does it look like? We have lots of antique furniture…they seriously need resanding and staining. I’m looking to take a course so I can do the pieces myself.
