A Couple of Interesting Links

First, a good commentary article on implications and overall changing gender viewpoints triggered by Mr. Thomas Beattie (yeah, the transman who is pregnant).

Second, how many of you have heard of this RealID act?  They want a national ID card, and although the basic idea isn’t that bad, it’s the devils in the details, and believe me, there are a bunch.  The trans issue is that if there is a difference between the gender shown on your RealID card and your apparent gender, what kind of problems would that cause?  TSA preventing you from boarding an airline because you don’t "match"?  Also, as these national RealID databases expand to include your medical history, your credit, your…   well, just look

Note this is from the ACLU.  Other human rights oriented groups are sceptical of the act as well, and a lot of states are fighting it for a variety of reasons.  Hopefully, it’ll die next year with a better president.

take care, folks

The RealID is a good idea in theory. I used to work at a liquor store, and I’ll admit, when the ID was out of state I usually couldn’t find the DOB. If they handed it over, I just guessed that it was legit. Wrong I know, but mostly it was a formality. On the other hand, it’s just one step closer to us all having barcodes tattooed on the back of our necks. Hugs, John

Holy crap. That RealID thing was insane. Omg. I’m sure it won’t be AS ridiculous as that, but I can certainly see the point. Man. I was against it before but now i’m even more so.

I love that you post these links and details for us. Thank you for that. I hope that you have a great week.
