NJM #7 – Assiduous

Assiduous: Unceasing; persistent, constant

I’ve planted my feet in fertile soil
watching the seasons turn around me,
the dirt moving from muddy and slick where I
sink to my knees and wade out, welcoming the water
to dusty and dry, cracking before me.
I see spring approacing on the horizon before
winter has even begun.
I have no need to hunker down for the cold seasons,
to hide myself away from the world, hibernate.
I don’t need to horde my sustinance in case of
scarcity.

I am assured in my place here, that I belong here,
part of this world, this place – this life
not questioning my own becoming.
I am certain that I have stuck myself in a world that is
stable, lasting.

I am intent on staying.
