duman lab bbq

Yesterday, I met Kristie’s new postdoc boss for the first time as we joined the majority of the rest of her lab at her advisor’s BBQ at his home in Guilford.  It was during the week, so I spent most of the workday at my own lab, occupied with "passing the torch" type activities.  At 3:15, I skipped out and drove with Kristie to the Duman party.  After introductions to the few lab members that I hadn’t met yet, I cracked open a beer and sat beside Kristie as she socialized with her labmates.  Eventually, we engaged in some yard games, including the ladder toss (at least until several of the balls’ decrepit strings snapped in half), frisbee, and badminton.  We briefly dipped our feet in the pool until a biblical deluge temporarily drowned out the party.  We all sought shelter inside the kitchen until the storm blew past us.  Only then were we able to dig into the catered dinner and homemade desserts.

Shortly after the meal, a bunch of us headed out together because it was time to go play ice hockey in Northford.  It’s actually quite a substantial chunk of the Duman lab that plays in the hockey clinic, so we practically brought the party with us.  Also, I now have new skates that don’t hurt my feet, so I was able to participate fully in the drills and the scrimmage!
