tonight
Wow.
So we sat in a field tonight and watched a thunderstorm move towards us. The four of us, my friend group here, we sat in the dead grass off of this dirt road and pointed at the sky excitedly whenever it would light up. The horizon at first was all that we could see–quick bursts of areas of soft light, illuminating clusters of clouds. If you continued to look up into the sky, the clouds ended suddenly and above (underneath?) them the stars were clearer than I”ve ever seen them. As time went on, we noticed the wind getting stronger–we shivered and moved closer together. The lightning had climbed in the sky and had spread out, and we couldn’t see all the flashes at once. Every so often, a bolt would streak across the sky horizontally, jagged. We started singing oldies, out of key and really damned loud–some farmers probably thought we were drunk off our asses. Low thunder started to rumble out in the distance, making us realize that we couldn’t stay out there all that much longer.
I stared up at the stars quickly being eclipsed by the clouds. The night sky had a blue tinge from all the lightning. And there, surrounded by the power of nature and the power of friends–the two things that can really move me–I felt more spiritual than I’ve ever felt before. I was calmed, awed, quieted, peaceful. I was safe. I was happy. And it was awesome. 🙂
Nature’s power over our emotions is unbelievable.

thunderstorms fill me up with wonder and amazement and fear and peace and so many more emotions i cant even attempt to sort out. I remember a few years ago at my cousin’s bday there was a big storm and the lights went out. Everyone was saddened, while i went outside and twirled around under the jagged lights and roaring thunder and wet drops. It was one of the best moments of my life. heh.
