Reading, Reading, and more Reading
Sometimes I wonder if I’ve bitten off more than I can chew with my currently reading list. Most of my books that I like to read nowadays are more than 300 pages each. And some of them aren’t the kind of books you can just breeze through. Why? Because every single one of the books I am reading right now are by authors I have never read before now.
Not to say that I read familiar authors fast, either. I’ve been known to take up to a year and a half to finish a final book in a series. Just ask the Twilight Saga, The Mortal Instruments and probably the first culprit of this, the Harry Potter series. Of course, the reason I couldn’t finish Deathly Hallows was over a spoiler I got early on in the most unexpected place on the Web. A movie site. This was well before the film version, so a spoiler for the book shouldn’t have been an issue but I got it, and it was the worst one that personally could’ve gotten for the family that I claimed as my own. But yeah, it took me over a year and a half to finish the book after that. And the only reason I wound up finishing it was because I didn’t want to go to the final movie prior to not reading it.
So what am I reading, and how many? Let’s see. I’m reading The Shadow of the Wind by Spanish author Carlos Ruiz Zafon (there’s supposed to be an accent over the O, don’t ask me how to do that…. no clue!) I’m reading Nemesis by Brendan Reichs. This book is so good. And it’s already been added to my “to-own” list and will be here Friday. Will be ordering Genesis (book 2) after I finish it. I’m reading Gold Fame Citrus by Claire Vaye Watkins. This is my first adult dystopian that I’m reading. I’ve been reading Young Adult Dystopian/Post Apocalyptic novels for a good part of 6 or 7 years now. It’s pretty much my favorite genre now! So I wanted to see what it was like to read an adult version. I’m also reading New York 2140 by Kim Stanley Robinson, another adult dystopian type novel where New York has flooded and people are living basically in a complicated system of skywalks and skyscrapers. Haven’t gotten nearly as far in this one as I’d like, but will definitely pick it up more now that I’m turning in my library copy of Nemesis.
Non-dystopians I am reading include The Curse of the Spellmans by Lisa Lutz, the second book in the Spellmans series. I own this one on my Nook, so I could theoretically return it, as well. I’d rather have it in my hands though. My Nook is more of a “space saver” type thing, so I only use it occasionally to buy books. Lisa’s books are good, but they just don’t have a place on my shelf, unfortunately. Also reading A Wind in the Door, the second book in the Time Quintet by Madeleine L’engle. And I’m working on finishing the third and final book (not counting the short story novellas I have) for the Splintered trilogy, as well as Roseblood by A.G. Howard.
Is it any wonder that I quit RPing and haven’t done a lot of diamond painting recently? I’m just too busy filling my mind with the words of these fantastic authors. LOL. Honestly, I’ve never been happier. Does that make me a bad person? I don’t know. In a way, I feel like I left one set of a friends for some fictional friends who will never love me, or play with me outside of my imagination. Hmm. Maybe I really do need that psycho therapist. Oh well.
Today is Humana Day at the library so I’m gonna be gone most of the day until about 4. Of course Fingerhut chooses this one time to actually want to deliver something to me early. In this case it’s my new laptop. That’s right, folks. This girl is getting a new laptop. No more having to use Mom’s. That is, assuming I like it, and can use it. There’s been quite the debate about that. Mom doesn’t think it will be enough space for me. It will. Very rarely use a lot of space. Most of my stuff in cloud storage or on my external, Jarvis. (Yes I named my external Jarvis, and?) So we’ll see how it goes. The good thing is that Fingerhut has a 60-day return policy so if I don’t like it, I can easily return it. Anyway, gonna go clean up the dishes and finish getting ready.
I see you are a book worm…Too bad you can’t just stop life to read your list. Now that would be cool….doing something you really want and like doing.
Warning Comment
Wow that is a lot of books at one time. Sometimes I read two, but usually I try to stick to one book and one Kdrama at a time.
