Through it all she heard his call And gave it all she gave.

His free hand soon found it’s way to her face, slender digits resting at her cheek as he drew in her eyes. Many times he would think he remembered them and yet here he felt very much different as if it was discovery of how beautiful and rare she truly was.
“When you died I was beside myself. I would venture to the meadow where I buried you that fall to try to remember….” he trailed off, red locks of hair tumbling out of place as he looked down at her fingers. He breathed in deeply trying to make sense of what was happening.
” I wasn’t expecting a second chance and yet we are here in this familiar place”. The sound of the patrons below surged a bit with laughter and the general raucous of furniture and footfalls of staff as they went about their business. He shifted in place to reach back for a robe and a small pouch tethered about his neck became noticeable, it was so small and lost among the details of his leather armor, it was drawn taut with a small green ribbon.
He took to his feet and began to enwrap her frame and draw her slowly from the wood tub, it’s waters losing their comfort.
He was thinking of her last words as he scooped her up without falter or stumble and brought her to the large bed. He had rented this room years prior. Yet after saving the tavern keeper’s daughter from the sleeping fever the winter Echolark died the man would take no payment and held this room out of respect for him. The large bed reminded him of that which was missing and yet he would continue to stay nights here for some time. Some evenings to remember, others to punish himself.  Time had damaged him yet the scar tissue condolences were far worse. Seeing others gather their warmth in the night while he isolated. To be the comfort and warmth for another, to have refuge in another’s heart.
For a brief moment he had what he wanted.
He had love and then it was snatched away. He was unsure what was happening here at this moment. He could feel her flesh, sense her warmth, hear her voice. He wanted to disbelieve the past and what he saw those many years ago. He settled on the bed beside her and put his head to her chest and he listened for the sound of her heart, eyes closed.
” I never stopped loving you Echolark. “
