I’ve been playing a lot of video games lately… Well, I say ‘lately’ as if it were different as if by some token I did not spend ALL of my formative years behind a console or a desk playing video games, while my brother shouted about how good he was doing while I had unplugged his controller several hours ago and let him play as “Tails”. Back in 2008 StarCraft2 came out with Wings of Liberty, followed by Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void. It’s been a staple game for me since it’s induction. Blizzard always used to hit the mark for me. WarCraft, WarCraft 2, Tides of Darkness, Diablo, and StarCraft were all big hits and it seemed they could do no wrong. Activision came along and has fucked it up considerably, but that’s not today’s story. Since we’ve nowhere to go, I’ve picked back up the StarCraft, and have been playing with my good friend Sarah (MagentaShades) and we’ve been playing the 1v1 competitive ladder and streaming our games on the online platform twitch, where we host said games and talk to each other. We play a little individual ladder and then play a host of games together where she normally wins, but I win maybe 2-3 out of ten. 1v1 Ladder is stressful for me, and I find it more fun to put on a little show for the viewers and talk to Sarah than to get super focused on the game and maybe freak out a little. If I turn it into a show, then that’s the focus and it takes a bit of the edge off. We’re both Streaming from about 6:30p – 10:00p PST Tuesday, Thursday, and Sundays right now on http://twitch.tv/Brizz0wl & http://twitch.tv/magentashades. Last Sunday I had the first viewers that seemingly found us by random. I’ve had mostly friends or at least people I know hang out for a bit and watch, but we each had a random pop into our streams and do a little chatting. It was a rewarding experience to have random people on the internet show interest in watching people play video games. I was offered advice (in a kind and instructive manner) and coached a little on the game and how to do certain things. This wasn’t supposed to turn into a shameless plug, more of just “this is how I’m spending my quarantine. ” Bay Area just continued the shelter in place until June, So I’ve got at least another month of streaming and trying to ignore the world around me. Good thing I’ve been doing that most of my life. Buuuut, if you wanna join me for some conversation and video games feel free.
Tuesday and Thursday evenings 6:30 – 10p PST
and Sundays from 5-10p PST (Sunday times can vary)
See you around!
