MayMetMo 2020 #8: Pterodactyl for Erratic
The sky had burned days ago with pieces of it falling around the great jungle since the rocketing explosions in the distance that had been the herald of the calamity. The great mountains had blown their tops with smoke and hot red rivers of poison that saught there way ever closer. While the herds moved sluggish and too slowly to escape, those with wings took flight seeking the shelter of migration to aid them in the peril. All, except the new mother pterodactyl, who had a nest and eggs to look after, flying erratically from one giant tree to another moving her eggs as the winds changed or the dangers came closer. The temperature continued to rise, and the ground gave way from her perch as she struggled to maintain her nest here, at the end of the world. A spot soon found, and clung too would last for about as long as it took to set up, and would vanish in smoke and fire and darkness as quickly as she was able to smooth out the place for her. Danger all around and with no place left to roost, she erratically flew above the canopy to see the world bathed in darkness and smoke with no signs of life left, only the flying creatures above the blackened clouds searching for anywhere, to stop their flight. Eventually, they would have to put down, and the death below would claim them, as well.
